Cracked Fog Lights!!

Cracked Fog Lights!!
I was driving on the freeway to work the other morning and i saw a truck hauling gravel about a 1/2 mile up the road. i was just driving along when i heard this "ping!" and then another "PING! PING!" Then i saw a piece of rock fly onto my windshield. I realized that the gravel truck was spilling some of his load and the rocks were flying all over the freeway! Unfortanately, the truck was up too far and I had to slow down to minimize the impact from the rocks. When i got home later that evening, i checked my car to see if it was ok. no paint chips (well, just one tiny one) but both my fogs cracked! pissed me off! i called mazda and asked them how much it'd cost to replace. they said $400 - $500 bucks. Is that right??

$400-500??? daaayam!! you can get real HID lights for that price!!!
I remember some guy (who also had a cracked fog light) said that it was expensive to replace (i think it was $200+ or so). I would say forget it and just get some PIAA ones, since a few people didn't really like our stock fogs anyway:

If its a P5 I have no idea how much the fog lights cost. As an option for the DX and LX trims they are nowhere near 400-500 bucks. I think they are more like $150 if you buy them yourself. If it is a P5 and that is how much the dealerships are wanting I would go to the junkyard and put them on myself.

Drive around in a parking lot and try to find another P5. Switch them out if you can. Just don't take mine. Seriously though, you may be able to find some at a junkyard, or you can try and go aftermarket and find something that will fit in the same spot. They'll usually be close, and you shouldn't have a problem mounting them in the stock location.

Yeah, i couldn't get the license plate b/c the truck was too far up the road and i had to slow down b/c of the stupid rocks. my friend suggested that i go out and find another gravel truck and blame it on them
I think i'll check out those piaa's. sounds like a better, less expensive, way to go. that is, unless i find another gravel truck! thanx for the advise!

Even if you got the licence plate number, you would have a hard time trying to collect for the lights (trust me, I tried before). You would basically need to have video evidence to prove it. Their answer to you would simply be "prove that it was our truck that broke your lights". Just remember when you replace them (try aftermarket or used) install some of that clear rock guard stuff on them, it helps.

don't you think you're lookin TOO far into this event; which could've caused a catastrophic end to mankind in another parallel universe? im just joking~
yeah it's not right to blame it on another company for my misfortunes. hehe but im too lazy to go out and look for another truck, anyway. but im still pissed at what happened.
i heard that it was easy to get a company to repair damage. it just needs to be well documented, as i've been told. who knows! i've never done it and i don't know anyone who's done it so it'll remain a mystery (unless any of you guys have done it).

you could always get some PIAA fog lights. the 5200 series is a direct replacement with no modificatoin.
