Exclamation Defrost and fuel consumption!

Sorry for the stupid question, but here goes. My mom owns a 02 Civic and fuel consumption is much worse with defrost on as the AC light also comes on and AC acats as a dehumidifier.

Does the protege 01 have this same feature? I really detest the fact that our Proteges defrost does not turn off by itself. Ohter then that, I am still driving the most reliable car I have ever owned And I have owned a lot of cars.

Yes. The AC runs when using defrost even though the AC light doesn't come on.

Depending on what model/year of Protege, it also comes on for floor/defrost and floor.
