Does anyone else wish they waited a year??
Looking at the new mazda 3's i wish i had of waited a year. The Pro 5 is still a nice car and i realize that every year they come out with something better but sure would be nice to be driving one of those 3's right now.

Not me. I love my P5. The 3 might be a better in some ways, but would've cost alot more. I probably would've went with the Matrix if I couldn't get the 5. Lots of stuff available for the Toyota. Just my 2 cents.

Nope
Because of Mazda's new line of car, and the short model line of the PR5, we now own a collectors car. Plus that was my main bargaining leverage when I purchased mine, knocked off another $1,000 off the price.
And the new 3 is kinda bulky, doesn't look as good as a PR5. IMO

I don't like the Mazda 3 I'll give it credit thought, it has a nice interior, more power and I like the tailights but it just is'nt a P5; The P5 is so much better. Instead of coming out with the Mazda 3, Mazda should have came out with a mazdaspeed Protege 5 now that would have been a better idea all together.

with me I wish I would have waited a month til I bought my msp thats when those factory rebates went into effect and the prices dropped a bit, also I was really eyeing the 6 before I bought the msp but I had to go with the boost, and I love my msp.

I love my P5. I've had it since September 2001.
I like the 3 also, but in the long run, the P5 is probably a better car for my needs. Plus it still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it, as does my old VW.

I think subghetto said it right, they should have made a P5 mazdaspeed. That would have been my choice. I think we will all be loving the new miata mx-5 speed when it comes out. A turbocharged, tricked out little miata. Nice looking rims, all the nice miata interior designs, and a 178hp engine.

Almost almost... I do like the new sedan. However, I think the 3rd gen steering wheel is cooler (simple 3-spoke). About the only major thing I miss is the extra power.
But whatcha gonna do
I couldn't have waited a year to get a car. Maybe if I got a cheap used car first, then I could be in a good position for a Mazda3 now. Then again, I didn't want to get a used car because I wanted reliable from day one.
So overall, no real regrets. Getting an auto is a half-regret, but oh well

well i bought a P5 and am glad I did..I really dont like the way the 3 looks and it jsut is too bulky and fat..besides i just ordered my turbo kit and a few other mods and when I am done it'll have even more power than a msp or the new 3.

I went out and test drove a 2.3L M3 Sedan, automatic (comparing apples to applies -- mine is automatic too).
Well, it has a tighter turning radius. The interior is definitely nice. But handling-wise it's very similar. The handling even felt a little less connected and more unsure, but that could be because the car had 4 miles on it.
Power-wise... it's not that big a difference. Sure, it pulls more, but it's not as dramatic as I thought. I'd get a stick if I were to get one for real, of course.
The sedan definitely looks nice. I like the rear end's look better than my Pro's (the tails are sweet), mostly because the end is a little more smoother, more Jetta-esque.
The best thing was getting back into my Protege and still enjoying my car, no longer wishing to have waited a year
