Current situation with Ford and Mazda :
Are there any plans to increase your capital investment in Mazda and complete your purchase of that company?
At the present time, we do not have any plans to increase our equity in Mazda. We are at 33.4 percent, we have certain rights at that level and we have management agreements with them, and it is working very well. So, we certainly do not have any plans to make a change in that relationship, because everything is working well.
What about taking a stake in Mitsubishi?
I would never say never. But what I do know about them is that they have a huge amount of debt, and that makes any investment in them very difficult.
And Nissan?
I've known President (Yoshikazu) Hanawa of Nissan. We have a cooperative agreement with Nissan here in the United States But again the debt issue of Nissan makes it very difficult to have an equity agreement with them. Their debt to equity ratio is also high. Ford is measured by Western accounting standards and if we had responsibility in any way for the debt levels of many Japanese companies it would adversely affect our capabilities in the rest of the world. So we have to be very careful in taking equity stakes in Japanese companies that are burdened with major debt.

Look at the specs with the Ford Focus and Mazda Protege, quite similiar. Look at the Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute, quite similar platform, almost identical as well. They are Ford, not all of it, some of it, part of it Gotta share you know when you own part of the company. They are not the only two. Look at Ford/Lincoln/Mercury and Jaguar. Lincoln LS's engine is the same as the Jaguar S-type's, with little mods of course. At least you are not telling us that Ford, Lincoln and Mercury are different companies
