does this happen to other pro owners?
Wasup guys,
I have noticed since I have had my 01' protege that whenever I press the gas to accelerate... it is like it takes a moment or like it just stalls a sec and then it starts to go faster. I may not be making sense but the other pro i had did the same thing. Is there any way I can correct this or is it just because it is a 4 cylinder?
Any comments are appreciated

Is it an automatic or manual? My 02 LX is an automatic and does hesitate somewhat before downshifting into 2nd. This is usually happens when I slow down to make a turn, then give it a little gas coming out of the turn. Not much of a problem when accelerating hard. It is only 1 of the 2 things that annoy me about the car. The other thing is "1 speed setting" for the delay wipers.
Shoulda got the 5 speed but the wife can't/won't drive a manual.

The Protege reminds me a little of the auto (slip & slide) tranny in my first car, a 67 Chevelle. I sure wish I still had that car today, it would be worth considerably more than the $375 that I sold it for.

Agreed, although my 3 previous Saturns seemed to have better automatics in them. They were a little quicker to downshift and apply the (feeble) power.

As far as the Protege's tranny, I've noticed it too (I also have an automatic).

I drove my mom's 2000 Pro ES this weekend and as I was driving around I was saying to myself "Damn, this car has NO throttle response..."
To get any power of the automatic tranny I'd have to almost floor the accelerator. The car would rev up madly and then a second later I would feel some slight acceleration. I think it's pretty lame... press accelerator...2-3 seconds later, car reacts!
In contrast, in my car, I always keep it around (or above) 3000 RPM so I get instant gratification. Touch accelerator...car accelerates... floor acelerator, feel torque pushing you back into the seat...
I can't say I don't like the fact that our engines are quite torky. 135-140 lbs-ft that I have sure beats my friend's pathetic ~110 lbs-ft that my friend's Civic Si has (can you say constant shifting!@@$#)

I definitely noticed the lag when I was test driving other cars... in fact, the 02 Milennia had the worst lag out of all of them. (Automatic, of course.) My dealer said it's always been an issue, and it is better than it was in the past, but still normal for the automatics.
