Huh, I don't get it... some kinf of added alarm system that does not let you start the car if the doors are locked?

As I said... I don't get it....

One of the reasons I got mine so cheap is because it doesn't have any power options, even locks. I did have them on my old car and I kind of miss them. But, I'm 6'2", so leaning over to pop the door locks isn't that big a problem and I don't have passengers too often anyway. Really, it's more of an annoyance to my friends than it is to me. And, well, it was cheap so my friends can deal.

that was the factory system that kept it from starting...to add to the frustration, it set off the alarm...

laziness... whenever I'm in the back I expect the driver to unlock all the doors when we park and go to get out.

As the driver I lock my car doors as soon I get in the vehicle, even if only to go a few miles or even down the street. Force of habit...
I suppose a nice red carpet rolling out for you as you get out of the car would be expected too?

Absolutely and I fully expect you to do it.

Wow, sounds like something is just not right with the alarm install on your ride. I can not imagine, nor have I ever seen for that matter, why the doors need to be unlocked to start the car. I would be back at the dealer making sure that got fixed.

Not only is that annoying it is a safety hazzard.

My family(Mother) drives the Dodge G.Caravan
and it has that "lock" options you guys talking about
(the auto open when you stop and get out, even if the lock is engaged and auto close once you hit 15mph and the passenger switch for the lock)

For the protege, the reason i think they don't have it is because it is a Japenese car, and they wanted to be different?
the only cars that I have seen that in are the American(Domestic in other words)

I don't know about Europeans.

I don't mind the features on the Protege, plus, I don't get many passengers in the car. And when I do, they have to wait for me to unlock them out. When they are in my car, they are MINE!
lol

A more likely explanation is that Caravans are usually purchased by people with children. The autolock is probably much more appealing to a mother of 3 (who doesn't want their toddler to reach over and throw themselves out the door) than to a single guy in his 20's (who if stuck in the car with toddlers would throw the kids out the door himself ).
