EGR Valve Replacement
My 02 P5 with 125000km started idling real bad lately, with the tach needle bouncing up and down to almost 0 like there was no tomorrow (luckily it hasn't stalled yet). The CEL came on as well.
I had the CEL scanned and it turns out the EGR valve is stuck open. Dealer told me it would take 1 to 2 hours to change!
I opened up the hood and located the valve...it seems pretty accessible, just to the right of the intake manifold, held together by a couple of screws and electrical connector...is it that simple to swap out? Why the hell is the dealer telling me its gonna take 1 to 2 hours (150 bones for labor, 200 bucks for the part).

It is a PITA (pain in the but ) but not worth that much labor!
I suggest you contact another independent garage and bring them the 'cleaning procedure' from this site. Or just do it yourself if you think you can.

Have you looked at this yet? EGR How-To I followed these steps and didn't have too much trouble. The only hard thing is squeezing your hand below the throttle body to reach the damn thing, but the whole removal process shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes. Good luck ... I hope you can save some money!
