Engine question, n00b here also.
What's up the names Jerron, and i drive a 03 Protege LX Stock. Not a n00b to the mazda family though. Had a 1gen protege, 99 626, now the Pro. I plan to change out my pistons, intake cams, and intake mani. To the jspec engine's. Then boost that with a T3/T4, and hopefully have a decent FMIC to go on it. Then i want to get the P5 front w/fogs and sides. And i would like the ES stock wheels but i may just buy some different wheels. But the engine question i have is the 626 and the protege both used the FSDE 2.0 engine if i'm correct. I just want to know if there was any difference in the one in the 626 and the one in the pro? Also can the V6 from the 626 fit into the pro, or would it be easier to do a KLZE swap? That's all incase i decide not to change the pistons and all.

No worthwhile engine swaps exist for this car, and skip the J-spec stuff. Roddimus Prime (one of our moderators), working along with Wagner Motorsports, will soon be releasing a series of custom cams. There will be Stage 2 NA, Stage 2 NA Race, Stage 2 FI, and Stage 2 FI Race cam sets available, and they will only run about $500 for the set. At the moment, the best guess is about a 15-20% gain on an otherwise stock motor with these.
As far as the pistons go, if you're doing them and you plan on going turbo, remember not to up the compression too much and be sure to do your rods as well while you're in there.
Also, I might have a set of ES wheels available for sale very shortly, maybe polished or maybe silver, depending on what my wife decides. If you're interested, let me know and I'll give you first dibs when I know for sure what's up.

Oops, almost forgot, welcome to the club!!! We keep it clean around here and try to avoid alot of the childish BS and idle chit-chat that goes on elsewhere.
One more thing, instead of the J-spec intake manifold, you'd be much better off having yours extrude honed.... check out the Vendor section, Roddimus was also trying to set up a deal with a company to do some work for us. From what I recall, the J-Spec manifold requires quite a lot of work for very minimal gains.

Word up new guy, Do not waste your money with futile engine swaps and certainly dont bother with a JDM conversion.....the 170hp figure they claim is only about 10% parts and 90% ecu tuning.
Like 03ESPro said, in the vendor section I'm working on several different things right now that should be available by the time you get some money and a gameplan together.
