No Rattle

In my 02 DX I have never experienced rattle on start-up even when the temperature has been as low as 15 deg F. I wonder why some cars are free of this problem that so many others seem to be plagued with?

Okay. The dealership said that there is a replacement solenoid available now. It is currently on back-order but I guess they go me in line. So it appears the fix is a combination ECU / part replacement that is available now. So I would say go get in line.

They are just replacing the VTCS and flashing the ECU. I believe it is still under the same TSB number that is in the FAQ.

That is the one with the problem. I don't know if it has been updated to reflect that a fix is available or if they will just release a new TSB altogether. I will ask the dealership when I pick my car up (fingers crossed) later today.

New Fix!

I took my car to the third dealer to try to get the rattle fixed and they actually did it, I couldn't believe it! I didn't go to this dealer unprepared though, I brought the TSB describing the problem from the FAQ in this website and I printed off and brought in the post from "Bob0a" (Thanks Bob0a!!). I showed them both and they look quite surprised to say the least about the information we actually shared on this bored. After waiting an hour and a half while they called what seemed to be a bunch of different people they finally came back and said that there was a fix for the car, a re-flash of the PCM calibration as Bob0a had done to his car. It seems like they know the fix but won't give it to you unless you come prepared, know a bit about the problem and push them to make the calls to find the fix. Thanks to all on this board and keep the information going round!!

I got mine back today sans solenoid with a new clutch. They apparently flashed the PCM and the engine sounded MUCH better when it was running cold. I started it up at the dealership and first question I asked my wife is if she could ever remember it sounding this good, it had been sitting on the lot for a couple of hours cooling off so the temp needle was on the C. Maybe I was just really happy to be back in my Pro after driving an Explorer around for 3 days (amazingly enough Ford did a damn good job with it, but I still don't like driving large SUV's). I still have a few days or weeks wait until the solenoid is available, service advisor is supposed to know tomorrow. Hopefully it will work as well tomorrow as it did tonight (took it for two drives, both started with needle on the C which is where I normally had problems).

They shouldn't give you any problems. Did you mention this problem to them before... before you installed your intake? If you informed them of the problem before installing the intake, you can tell them that, that it was not caused by the intake! Go in there with some ammo and you will be ok

Yup, I'm ready for action. That's why I'm playing CS (counter strike) everyday. 'enemy spotted'
If that doesn't work out, I will probably put my factory stuff in there and try different dealer.

Go go go! Fire in the hole!! Go get them girl and I'd do the same if that dealer don't want your business anymore. Re-intall the factory intake and take it to another dealer..."Enemy spotted"

OK, I got my car back this morning for the first time with the fix. It was sitting outside over night in sub-zero temperatures so the engine was very cold. The fix does NOT completely eliminate the noise but makes it MUCH more bearable and the overall idle seems much quiter. Overall, even though the engine is still a bit loud, it's at a much better level that I can definetly live with.

I didn't get the "valve" or "solenoid" replacement that some people who were getting the fix got so would someone who got the "hardware" replaced let me know how your car sounds...if it completely eliminates the noise or dampens it.
