I have now 3200 miles on my P5, and last night i started the car while it's already started. S*hit!!!!! I heard a Painful sound coming from the starter. Will this damage the starter? I only crank it for 2 seconds only.. Please help, anyone with info. Thanks

ya had a brain fart huh? lol....what you heard was the starter gear grinding up against the flywheel as the bendix tried to push it into the gear while the starter was spinning.....OUCH!!

you did it once.....now remember not to do that....you certainly didn't do any permanent damage this time.....but I wouldn't make a habbit out of it.

Uhh no, the starter assembly has a clutch which connects to the shaft/gear that goes to the flywheel. When that shaft is spinning faster than what the starter motor can spin the clutch slips and that's where you get that grinding sound. This is to prevent damage to starter. It won't hurt anything, just don't do it every day though.
oh cool...no old fashioned bendix huh? well....there ya go...ya learn something new everyday... :{D

well either way...its not like you actually ENGAGED the starter....had you been able to do that...the starter would have experienced "energetic disassembly" ....... and that IS a bad thing.
