ES-GT Owners: What is your fuel economy?
#32
Hello all
I bought a P5 last November and I'm too disappointed by the fuel mileage. I get average of 22 mpg, which works out to 400-450km/tank. After reading the reviews before buying the car, I was expecting 28mpg(city)/31mpg(hwy). From reading other posts, some people are getting 500-600km. Tell me how?
I too live in Edmonton and last week's weather was brutal. I was warming my car for 5-10 minutes.
Running your car down to empty or filling up 1/4 left shouldn't effect fuel mileage. Think about it. If you are running it down to empty then you are putting more fuel in when you fill up.

Alberta, SAskatchewan and Manitoba do not have significantly differrent climates, at least not different enough to reduce your milage to the point that you are getting. Your car likely has a small problem that needs to be fixed. Are your brake pads dragging? Does you gas tank/line have a small pin hole? If your car was a lemon, there yould be more issues than gas milage that is bad. try checking soome of these things.

jaf, just in case you wanted to know, i just filled my gas tank. 32.315 litres, and i had exactly 289km on my odo. 8.943km/l.
since the tank is 55 litres, I would have gotten 491.877km out of the tank, if i ran it dry. All of this converted to american is 7.108 gallons, 179.576 miles on the odo, if my math is correct, this works out to 305.638mpg. Like everybody else on this thread, I've got the 2.0L. Tranny is manual, not the auto. I usually shift at 4000rpm, and cruise between 2500 and 3000rpm. At the moment, I'm using 16" stellies with winter rubber. As noted before, I do not plug in my car if the tempurature is above -25C. Engine oil is synthetic, 5W-30, i believe. Everything stated above is city driving only.
The proteges do not have very efficient engines, but if you are getting significantly worse than what I have noted above, or anybody else on this thread, change your driving habits (if you drive hard), or which I would recommend, take your car to your dealer, and discuss some of the problems with them.
Other than what I or others have stated previously, has somebody else been using your car, without you knowing/re-setting the odo reading on your car?, or siphoning gas? (un-likely).
