Extended Warranty question
Hi, just curious on how much time after taking delivery you have to buy the extended warranty. I believe the salesman said I could buy the extended up to 2 years after taking delivery, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know?
Thanks

You can buy them at any time, usually up until the car is ~10 years old. A bunch of companies are entering the extended warranty business because it's fairly lucrative. My car insurance provider (State Farm) now sells extended warranties, except that they call it "car repair insurance" (a horse by any other name is still the same) The dealer can probably hook you up with an extended warranty regardless of the age of your car, they just want to get your money before you forget about it
I personally don't believe in extended warranties, especially from a dealer. This is partially because I work on my own car, which makes repairs much cheaper. However, here's some food for thought: the company providing the warranty is making a profit, plus they are giving the dealer a cut (the dealer does not provide the warranty themselves). If you're paying enough for the warranty that they can make money TWICE, you can safely guess that they are charging a lot more than they expect to pay in repairs

Thanks, I wasn't specific in my original message, I'm talking about the Mazda extended warranty that takes over when the standard 3 yr/50K warranty runs out. I think it can be extended to 7 yrs/100K, for around $1300. I'm pretty sure this can only be purchased 2 yrs after taking delivery, but not certain.
I'm thinking about doing it at some point becuase I plan on keeping the car at least 5-6 years, and I really can't do anything but the most basic maintenance. With the price of Mazda parts I think it may make sense for me.

I was told by my dealer... that I could purchase it at ANY time as long as it was before the original warrenty ran out. I specifically asked "I can come in at 49,999 miles and still buy it, and he said "YES"." So ..... good luck!
