Thanks for the clarifications. I learned something new today

But this got me thinking. If ABS relies on wheel speed difference, then if you would drive your car (with ABS) on a very smooth ice-skating rink and hit the brakes, all 4 wheels would lock at the same time and there would be no speed difference between the wheels... so the ABS will not work in this case?

i think its so amazing how a thread can go from a concern of warrenty on a flat tire to the way ABS works, haha, its great. Its all good though, its cool to learn something new. Also, i dont have ABS although i REALLY REALLY wanted it. i couldnt wait for a new shipment though...

This is how a board goes from base-level discussions to becoming a real store of knowledge! Really cool...

This is something that I have always wondered. I asked about this a while back with some more car savy folks than I.

If you were going slow enough to begin with then the car will think that the stop was indeed a full stop and you have a situation where the ABS is not going to kick in. Apparently if you are moving above a certain speed from the get go (and I do not know what that speed is) then the computer will see the sudden change over to zero speed at the wheels and resond accordingly. So, if you slam on the brakes it will likely kick in the ABS.

At least that is what I was told.
