do you think it would be worth it to get an mp3 with flood damage that supposidly still runs but is dirt cheap. also cam you ever re-register if it has a destroy title? let me know if any one has any insight. thanks.

 

I would say no. You may not have problems in the beginning but later as water/rust starts to affect electrical connections it would become a nightmare.

Trying to trace electrical issues in a normal car can be difficult.

If you are serious about getting the car, call your local DMV and find out what is involved in registering a flood damage vehicle. Also, call your insurance carrier and ask them if they will insure a flood damage vehicle. (some carriers won't)

Then, if you do get the car, I would at least replace the wiring harness and probably most of the connectors. No easy task on ANY car, let a lone a late model vehicle with all the electrical thing in them. Another thing to keep in mind, depending on how deep the water was that it was in, you might want to replace the ECU.

All in all, I would NOT buy a flood damage vehicle regardless of how well it runs.

 

I used to settle insurance claims for a major carrier and believe me - there is a reason they consider an otherwise great car a "total Loss" because of an inch or two of standing water. Our rule regardless of the make was generally, if the water was up to the doorsills it was considered totalled. Insurance companies save pennies wherever they can and if they thought it was more profitable to repair a flood vehicle, they would. The fact that they would rather pay thousands to total it out instead of dealing with years and years of continuous claims should tell you something.
