Floor Mat Anchor

Floor Mat Anchor
Two months with our MP5 and we are extremely happy. We got rid of a 1996 Cavalier to get into the MP5, and I doubt we will ever go back to a domestic.
The only annoyance we have is that our drivers side floor mat keeps getting bunched up under the pedals. I keep having to reach down at stop lights and pull it back down. It would seem the floor carpeting is not of sufficient pile to make the grip on the back of the mat usefull.
The mat has a grommet in it for an anchor peg, but the car does not have one.
I'm annoyed at constantly needing to fix it, as well as worried about safety as getting stuff crammed under the pedals is not exactly a good idea.
There seems to be a screw in the floor on the drivers side just back from where the mat sits. There is not a similar screw on the passenger side. I'm wondering if I can use this screw - perhaps with a bit of fishing twine of wire - to anchor the mat. But I'm not inclined to unscrew things without knowing what they are...
Any thoughts?

Before I call them up, I'm wondering exactly what I'm going to say when they plead that "No, they are not supposed to have them".
Or, to rephrase, how exactly to I fulfil a burden of proof if they throw this back at me?

Tell them you have spoken with other owners. Or have someone who live in your area to go in with you and show them. I don't live near you but I'll be happy to provide my number if they wish to get a hold of me.
