Fog lights and high beams...

Hey! Just got my car (2003 lx gt) today! LOVE IT!

Just notice one thing though: the fog lights are wired with the low beams (I have a switch for the fogs, but they're only on if low beams are on), and if I switch to high beams, fogs are off...

Are the fogs factory installed with GT package or are they installed by the dealer? Are everyone's fogs wired this way? I find it a little counter productive since if you're on high beams, it usually means you need best lighting possible...

Yes, it is.

You are only allowed a second pair of illuminated lights when the low-beams are on. When your highbeams are on, no other lights (aside from corner lighting, of course) are permitted to be lit.

Also, having your fog lights on along with the high beams in fog/snow/rain probably would not be a good idea.

Weird... Oh well... I still love my car

(Edit: oups: quoted the wrong post)

I was more refering to twisted roads surrounded by trees at night. ("Rally style")...

But if it's illiegal, I'm not gonna bother!

The reason the lights are only on with the low beams is because they are "fog lights"...to be used for fog situations where a broad/low pattern is desired. Ever notice that fogs are as far apart on the car as possible? If they came on with the high beams they would be "driving lights"...these are commonly mounted close together and are focused far infront of the car to create a piercing light pattern.
Also, the law is a grey area. Yes the government states no more than 3 sets(pairs) of lights, but there is no fine...the government is good with bringing legislation without punishments! All they can do is make you go for a vehicle safety, of which the mechanic dosen't give 2 ***** about your fog lights as long as your hi/lo beams work! If your car is found to be safe, the fuzz has no case!
