it's like credit card miles.....you buy stuff from mazda at their hugely inflated prices and get a fraction of a percent back in credit to be used with them?!?! That's horrible. As a former mazda employee I can tell you I'd NEVER take my car back to them unless it was getting lemon-lawed (which is sadly happened to a lot of people I know).

Damn, I always wanted to to spell out the name of my car in a big cloud of dust
but I can't find an open area of dirt big enough to spell 'Protege'!

Ummm, you guys are missing how the program works. The credit card is optional and there are 254 partners. WalMart is one of them. 3% of all your WalMart purchases go into the REV account. The percentages range from 1-10%. And if you do have your car serviced, or buy a genuine Mazda part, you get credit in your REV account. I just got my timing belt replaced and paid for it with my REV points. It cost me nothing. As a single mother who doesn't know how to work on cars, that's major!

Please don't take our ripping on the REV rewards as a personal attack; we mean you no ill will at all. I believe we all understand how the program works. Its just that to us in this on-line community it is nearly comical to participate in the program
This on-line community is a group of enthusiast who have purchased a Mazda product for purposes that go beyond daily utilitarian driving. We are a group who like to drive, and a group that may like to drive a little more spiritedly. As such, there are certain aspects of our cars that we feel may need to be improved on that would enhance our enjoyment of driving.
However, there are many of us here who have experienced denial of warranty services from Mazda, because some modification may have been performed to our vehicles. It doesn't matter that the possible modification was completely unrelated to the failure of the car, Mazda has denied warranty service to a number of enthusiasts.
Now this is contrary to the Magnuson-Moss Act passed in Washington, which basically states that a car manufacturer has to prove that an aftermarket part caused the failure in order to deny warranty service. We on the on-line community, however, are mostly finding that Mazda's warranty policy is that if you modify your car in any way shape or form, don't expect us to provide you with warranty service. No explanation, no reason why a particular modification caused the damage, nothing. You want it fixed, you have to pay.
There have been exceptions to this, but for the most part warranty service has been denied or difficult to obtain.
So again, nothing personal; its just that we're a bit cynical about maintaining a continued relationship with MNAO beyond purchasing our vehicles because of this.

that was the nicest damn post Ive ever heard since logging onto the net 10 years ago!
Mazda service sucks. But to be fair most manufacturers service sucks. Mazda just downright lies and is shady.

And you're right Matty; I don't think this is just limited to Mazda. I'm sure at some point anyone who has modded their car has run into this problem no matter what make of vehicle it is. We're just particularly sensitive about MNAO because its our particular choice of vice.
If they want to give me a hard time because I put on a set of Tokiko Blues on my ride, I'll deal with it. What scares me is if the insurance company will deny coverage because of them; I can see that coming.

rktkpaul,
Thank you so much for your kind post. I suppose if I'd had your experiences, I'd feel the same. I didn't realize I'd stumbled upon a group of Mazda owners who go beyond the boring 55-70mph standard. I myself, got yet another speeding ticket today for 20 over. I love my little Miata and I know how to use my right foot. *G* I can only imagine how much fun you guys have with your modified cars! Anyway, thank you again.
