Good Story For All To See !
I am not positive this should go in general discussion but i think this is something you folks would like (or not ) to see.
I see the moderators moved the newspaper story to the racing forum but i think this is not specifically about that but a good story we all should watch.

Maybe it belongs in off-topic ? I will let the powers that be decide.

In some states I believe it is illegal here. In SC I was told that you couldn't put your car lower than a soda can basically. That was the test that an officer would do. My TRD Camry was lower than that from the dealer.

Lowering
Sir Nuke
Not where i am at least no that i am aware of and mine isnt so dont know if i will find out, a few other ones though no tint on the front windows or windsheild no biggie i like mine without, and from what i understand you need to have a gear pattern on your shifter and get this !! so if your car is stolen the stealing it will know the pattern and not accidentally go in the wrong gear and run into somone LOLOL is that a joke or what (well not completly) but you know what i mean.
No one tell the police about my leather shifter k
This whole street racing thing is so freaking stupid IMHO go to the local drag strip the one here (weather permiting) has races every Friday:
A) safer
B) Hell you get a real Christmas tree if your gonna race make it fair how many of these idiots can do it if they have a chance of redlighting
C)safer
D) a good crowd, people there to help you improve tips tricks
etc...
E)safer
Again JMHO hell if you dont have a dragstrip where you are talk to the police, see what they can set up for you, i bet they might help you find an appropriate place and even help you with the safty.
But what the hell do i know i like racing in circles
Yes i like the smileys

Racer91 - we have a local drag strip?
The solution to street racing - organized track racing. The problem with organized track racing is that the participants are often ticketed when leaving for having "illegal modifications". The powers that be say one thing then do another.
As far as the "zero tollerance" goes. Lets just see how when it holds up in court. If I got a ticket for puting an Apex-i intake on my MR2 damn right I would be going to court to fight it. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty. If the cops get away with this they may as well start arresting people based on race or color!!!!! This is likely the worst case of legalized discrimination I've ever heard. If I was the VICTIM of this type of persecution I would sue the local government.
The other thing that is sooooo hypocritical is this: you get a ticket for adding 25 hp to a 130 hp Protege... but you can drive a 350hp luxury car with no problems! So it's ok to drive a car that outguns your skill if it is stock, but not modified. Give me a break.
BTW - I do not condone street racing. Keep it on the track, as most would say. However, if this hysteria keeps spreading we enthusiasts will have to band together to fight back.
I feel sorry for you guys in B.C.

UNFORTUNATELY KrisA.....the track is NOT the solution....and I will tell you why....for starters....any decent track is NOT going to be in town....near the hangouts and crusin spots of the "crowd" a good track is going to be out in the boonies somewhere...that is typically where they are built.....for the simple reason of keeping the noise down...or at least it not being a problem for the surrounding area...now I am sure there are some older tracks out there that have ended up being SURROUNDED...but they were not originally built near anything much.....
anyway.....there will always be a certain element that the illegal OUTLAW mentality will always prevail in....afterall....why drive out to a track...PAY to race....when there is open roads that are free...not to mention close and convient to have ALL their buddies watch....
I say all this because not to far away from me is one of the, if not THE best drag strip in the entire United States....its new....its state of the art.....and EVERY Friday night there is a "Friday Night Street Fight" program put on...where anyone and everyone can bring anything they want to that very track...and for a mear $5 can run that stirp...and even obtain Time Slips for their runs if they like.....its a totally awsome facility.....but ..... do the street racing crowd go there and do their thing? no.....they are on the street.....sad but true.

Sir Nuke - I think the reason alot of people don't go to the legal races is this: (As told to me by South Californian MR2 enthusiasts)
There used to be illegal street races these guys would go to. Before too long the police started making busts for street racing (as they should). At the same time some started organizing friday night drags at the strip. Most of the street racers started going... until the CHP started pulling over cars as they left and giving them tickets for modifying their cars. These guys were damned if they did, damned if they didn't and took it back to the street.
Start cracking down on the street racing and make legalized drags hassle free and I think things will calm down quite a bit. If that is possible with todays media. In those cities without a good strip perhaps they could close off a section of road for people to race on.

I think alot of other wanabe racers are the same way. To these twits it is all about winning and not competing, it is tough to be the "winner" in a group of 30 competitors... expecially when some of them are driving MR2 Turbos! Kidding about that, best I ever finished was 2nd or 3rd fastest (can't remember exactly) due mainly to the car, not the driver!

Auto X
This was a blast the few times i have tried it, once with the Avenger we used to have and then a few times with the other race car from Stick Boy Motorsports 666 Honda Prelude.
Something else this year new maybe for those that like is going to be King Of The Hill at KPS 1 lap shootout on the oval with street cars i think it will go over well we did it at BCS in Saskatoon last year crowd loved it and so did the drivers.

Racer....you lost me....what do you mean? "Where are there lids???" what are you talking about? did I miss something? lol
well WE never had the friday night shootouts when I was young and stupid either....that track that is NOW available has only been there for a few years. I will admit....I had a few races out there on the highway before....just a little older and wiser now I guess.

As for that video, pretty interesting, but I don't understand how they can pull someone over at any random time and accuse them of being a street racer. I rarely every race my car on the street, but my car is lowered (and inch or so) and the springs came from Mopar Performance, but the exterior is exactly as it came from the factory. Even when I finish the xhaust my muffler is either going to be stock or replica looking (only open). So can I still get nailed for street racing, without having done so?
Chrysler Corp has an amazing aftermarket, so if my car is Mopar Performance equipped, can I still get nailed, even though they're factory supported parts? This is a very fishy issue.

My side of things
First of, i'm glad this was brought up.
I was told about that video clip yesterday, and i've been fumin' since.
Why, well if you check my profile, I live in Richmond, BC. Hense my frustration.
I'm guessing most people from this forum, haven't been to Richmond, so I'll explain. Richmond has a high population of Asian (chinese), therefore the crackdown on all this racing.
Lately, about 1-2 months ago, some guys were racing on a public 50km/h road late at night, and the guy crashed his BMW. They said he was doing "excessive" speed, but in reality, I would assume around 180km/h +. Why? From impact, his front hood, and rear trunk ripped off the hinges, and flew over 100 feet from impact.
Yeah thats fast.
I drove by the accident location about 2 days after it, and I could see all the police stuff they had all over. The small flags, showing where debri had flown. It was sick.
Richmond is ricer village. I can't go through my day without seeing a Ricer. Yeah its brutal. I guess thats the main reason for the crackdown. But at the same time, totally unfair. My car doesn't look that modified, and unless you count the intake, and my 15" rims, lol, well yeah.
Sir Nuke: Its not illegal for us to lower cars. I can see how they MAY pose it being a safety hazard if your tires are rubbing... but they'd have to prove that. Some cars come SUPER low, right from the dealer.
I think one of the main things you guys need to understand, is there is almost NO race tracks here in Vancouver. I've lived here for around 13 years, and I know of one that is out in Mission, which is miles from here. Plus I don't know if they allow everyone to race there.
I think the worst part, is them pulling over anyone, and saying "hey you're a street racer, i'm towing your car". BULL$HIT.
I would take that to the court in no time.
But I guess we'll see what happens. I'm indian, and there isin't THAT many that live in Richmond, at least the area where I live (steveston area), so hopefully it won't get that bad. I'm pretty good with people as well (being in Customer Service for 2-1/2 years), so I hopefully can joke with the police IF they do pull me over...
"you towing my 125hp car!!!???!! noooooo!!!"
In the end, I think its lots of these kids who are hand feed these cars. I mean seeing 21 year old's in M5 BMW? Come on... thats sick! To get a idea of the speed some of these guys drive:
I come home on one highway (east west connector) in Richmond, its a STRAIGHT highway, max speed, 90km/h. Its about 10-15km long. Usually I come home at night on that highway around 2-3am when I'm out in the evenings/mornings. Anyways I usually coast around 110-120km/h down the road. Sure its 20-30km over the limit, but anything under 30km/h over the limit is not excessive. Anyways, I still remember these guys FLYING by me, in their preludes/civics, EASILY doing around 180km/h +. Sure the highway is completely empty, but thats just INSANE.
Well hopefully you got thru my blabbering... I guess I can only see what happens, but if they "tow my pro" oh baby, you'll hear some fumin...

you can race @ Richmond, but I see your point. Not enough tracks. But still not an excuse to be stupid.
Ok, I'm old... well older but still young (37) Grew up in the interior of B.C. Street Racing's been around forever, but from what I figure its a different style from when I was in high school and such. We raced some serious powerered, (frickin' HEAVY) cars. Cars I've had... 68 Chevelle SS 396, 72 Buick GS455 Stage1, and my cars were not nearly as fast as some of my friends. We'd all be cruzing main street Vernon till you caught a light with someone and it was on. But, put two honest car lengths on a guy and it was done. You won, no questions. Seems now you have flyby's, long distant races, with exteme speeds for those long distances, people loose control and bam. Its just a different style now.
Dont get me wrong, every car/bike I've owned I know what the top end was, how fast it would get there and such. I just try not to fly through the city @ that top end.
Don
