Help with bypass solenoid
I was excited to install the CAI i bought off ebay and enlisted my buddies help. When we were taking out the stock intake my buddy broke off 50% of the bottom of the stem coming off the bypass solenoid where it connects to the hose. Subsequently, I tried to fight him and he pinned me in about 7 seconds(He's on the University of Illinois Wrestling Team), after that we drove to NAPA they told us that we would have to order the part from the dealership. The guy at NAPA estimated it would cost about $100. Since 50% of the stem was still intact, we pulled the broken section out with some needlenose and attached the hose to what was left of the stem, then we used a mini-hose clamp to secure it. The hose seems to be pretty tight, and after driving the car nothing has happened yet. Today out of curiosity I went to the dealer they said the part would be $77. I have 2 questions:
1. Should I replace it? I dont want to go on a trip and throw a CEL, since I didn't tell my wife we broke the part. From my understanding it has to do with reducing emmisions, is that right?
2. Those of you who have CAI's, where the hell did you mount the bypass solenoid since the bracket was on the, now removed, stock intake? Right now its just sitting there not really secured to anything.
