Help! rattle coming from the upper console, (lights & S/F controls!)
Hey there guys, has anyone else experienced this problem? i get a rattle or vibration noise coming from the over head sunroof/interior light console. i tried taking the clear plastic cover off, to see if any of the bulbs etc were lose, but no. it's not too too bad, but with the stereo off, it's deff a constant sound. it was only ocasional at rifst, but now it's getting more frequent. certain RPM's will cause it, & bumps etc in the road will too. i hate to take it to Mazda, because i know what they'll say, they'll have my car for the day! way inconvienient, simply to say they can't hear anything.
thanks for any help,
cheers

Mine rattles from up there too, but only when the sunroof is closed or tilted, not when it's open. I went for a ride with a Mazda tech and asked him about it, and his response was that it might be the sliding cover or it might be the wiring for the dome light. Either way, to address it he said they'd have to take the whole headliner out, to which I said no thanks, it doesn't bother me that much.

I get a rattle up there as well... I found it to be the shade for the sunroof... usually sliding it back and then forward again to re-seat it seems to solve the issue.
When I have the sunroof open it also makes some noise, in this case sliding it further back a little further than where it stops automatically seems to help a lot.

I had the buzz/rattle going on also. Found it to be the switch panel, not the sliding sunshade. I fixed it by removing the switch panel. (it is held in place by two spring steel clips on each end) It's removed most easily by pulling straight downwards on one of the ends. You'll have to get your fingernails between the bezel and the headliner to get a grip on it. Don't try levering it against the headliner with a screwdriver of other flat tool I think you'll dent the headliner. When you've got it off and unplugged you can see that the spring clips have a lot of play in them. I slid the clips off (you'll see a little poined "tooth" on each clip that bites into the plastic so you have to use a screwdriver or paperclip to slip them off. It'll make sense when you see the clips. Once you've got it apart apply a generous amount of silicone glue to the clip and the slot on the bezel and slide the clips back into place. Let it dry overnight. When your sure it's dry reconnect the two electrical plugs and pop the panel back into place. No more buzz right in your ear! This drove me crazy 'til I figured it out.

I found that if I push up a little on the shade for the moonroof it stops buzzing. I think it must be the shade. Also, if you close the shade it stops buzzing for me. I don't know about the switch panel. Usually you can't hear it if you turn the radio up hehe.
