High RPM's?

I remember looking under the hood of a 95 Jetta diesel and there was some sort of noise insulation blanket right under the hood. It looked like a 3/4 inch thick insulation blanket that was screwed under the hood. The car salesmen it was there for noise reduction, especially for the diesel cars.
Now I'm sure there are a bunch or creative minds out there, can anyone think of something they could do to create the same thing for the Protege?
I'm open to all ideas!!

my protege already has a sound blanket of sorts under the hood. and IN MY OPINION, if you don't like the sound of a cars engine, how can you call youself an enthusiast?

As for the insulation...be careful what you use, you don't want to create an area for water to collect. I think some Rubberized Undercoating on the lower dash and lower dash extension (fire wall and floor pan) would be best...also works as rust proofing.
Other than that, I'd have to agree with LOS-323. I have a K&N cone filter, and custom exhaust with a fart muffler. When I'm in the sweet spot and the revs are up, I can't hear for the engine, muffler or the stereo, I'd like to get a ZE-motor, I hope the cams give it a nice sound !

i have the 1.8l bp in my 2nd gen and i loove the sound. nothing else sounds quite like the bp even without any mods whatsoever.
i definitely wouldn't call it loud but then i like engine noise.

I Love engine noise....I keep the revs up cuz i love to hear the engine....sounds sweet...
i dunno if its something wrong...but my engine makes a noise at 3000+RPMS as if a turbo was spooling up....I know it has no turbo....maybe wind is getting in somewhere at those rpms....but it sounds nice...I like it.
I also love the sound of the Rotary engine....no engine sounds better IMO.
EDIT : Oh yeah..this turbo spooling noise only happens in cold weather.... I wish it always happened

You won't find a single current small car out there, not one, that turns such high RPM's at boring, standard highways speeds as does the Protege.
Umm..... yea my mom's Jetta is a 2002 2.0 w/ a manual transmission and it hits about 3200 RPM'S at about at about 60 MPH so its not really only the protege, and if you are going to complain so much about the car the why have one in the first place

I never called myself a Protege enthusiast. I do think that this car is an excellent dollar value. Thanks anyways for your opinion.
