you cant go wrong with the protege. it's a great car.
great handling, looks, quality, steering, suspension.

i've test driven most cars within the price range and there's nothing that compares to the pro.
mazda set their mind on producing high quality and great handling cars and they've done a wonderful job.

this is my 2nd protege and i'm loving it!

I bought my 02 Protege' in Jan 02 and have put 33k miles on it. I love it. The only problem I have is finding a tire service center in my area that carries the OEM size tire. Not many tire makers make the 195 50R 16 and prices are a little high. I have foune prices as high as 980.00 dollars to as low as 552.00 dollars. (U.S.) My only complaint with the car itself is the center console is a little short for me . Otherwise I highly recommend this car to anyone in the market for a compact sedan. And you can get some really good deals right now. My local Mazda dealers have loaded ES models discounted as low as 13,500 dollars.(U.S.) If you buy one you won't regret it. I am having a leather interior installed as I post this it should be ready by the end of the week.

Same block, but higher compression pistons, cams, and intake manifold are different. 170HP NA.

PS: I love my 03 P5 as well. I actually traded in an 02 WRX wagon for it! Please don't ask why (sore subject.) Other than a real lack of power compared to the WRX, it's a great combined daily commute / weekend fun car. Not that's it's a slug by any means... as it's quite peppy around town.

I have got a auto (which I hate, but when my mom bought it she couldn't drive a stick... but I bought it off of her and now I am stuck with the auto for now.... I have put about 115000 km on it, and I'm too lazy to convert right now....

I've had many cars thru the years. Honda's, Toyota's, Domestics of sorts and none give me this car's driving satisfaction. I have the car about a month now. It's a 2000 ES Automatic. The whole driving experience makes it the best car i've had so far. Even with automatic, it's a blast. I find myself concentrating on the ride and not listening to my wife at times. Hey, that can be a good thing.

im also happy with the pro5. what i like best is its agile handling and good looks. also its gas milage too. its a real
bargan car. and best of all, very economical!

if any of my buddies were looking at buying a matrix or vibe,
or focus wagon, i would definitely tell them to check out the pro5 before they buy.

I've had my Mazdaspeed for exactly 2 weeks yesterday. I drove a Honda Prelude for the past 4 years. This car far exceeds the Honda in every aspect and it's STOCK. Many mods to come one day, but for now, I'm enjoying wearing off the new!!

The Protege is a great car for the money. I have yet to have a problem with mine yet and it is a 2000. The clutch is holding up just fine and I usually drive it very hard. Not the fastest of cars but you will love it anyways. I know I do.
