How is everyones insurance for 2002 mazdas
I'm 21 and have never been in an accident - it will cost me 1762 every six months for insurance. This will rival my protege payments. WTF? HOw is everyone dealing with this?

I see you're from New Jersey - and there's your problem. NJ has the highest auto insurance rates in the nation by far.
I'm on Long Island, which isn't so great either for ins. rates. I'm 29, have had a few bumps and tickets, and I'm paying almost as much as you - about $2800/year.

I guess the rates are lower in Western NY... $1200/yr and that includes full coverage for the Mazda and liability for the beater. Of course the deductible is not all that low.
Oh I gues since age plays a factor in pricing this stuff.. I am 29.

Down here in FLA, I am paying $1028/yr for the P5. We also have an MPV, a Harley Fatboy and our home on the policy also. We are both over 30, with a child. So there are many factors that helped bring our insurance cost down. The thing I was surprised with was that after going from a 2000 Mustang GT to the P5, my surance only went down $16/yr.

Here in the great white North...
I guess we're lucky here in the frozen North. I live in Ottawa, Canada and I just picked up my Protegé5 last week. I'm paying $1200 CDN sheckels a year for full coverage.
BTW, I'm 25 with 1 speeding ticket.

I haven't bought a P5 yet, but I was quoted $530/6 months for a P5. I'm 24 as is my wife; we have her 01 Millenia on the policy as well as our house. We are somehow getting the "over 25 y/o" rate.

SK, Canada rules!
My insurance is $1120 CAD a year, or like 800 USD. Heh. Oh, I am 23 with a clean record, but up here it is the same basic rate for everyone. It could be as low as 930 CAD if I didn't want 2 mill liability, 50 deductible, glass coverage, etc.

PM or post your insurance limits. I work at an insurance company and I might be able to tell you how you can lower your rates. Also, the Symbol for your car is 17 (out of 26). Since it is high on the symbol index your insurance will be higher.
The symbol is a composite number that takes into account several things: How often people get into accidents with the car, how much on average it costs to repair an average accident (read: how much $$damage the car sustains in your average P5 accident), how much is paid out on medical claims resulting from above average accident, and the cost of the vehicle.
Hondas (2002) seem to be around the 10ish symbol range for most of the vehicles listed in my symbol book. (cheap insurance)
Anyhow, to make a long story short, P5's are not cheap to insure anywhere. Best bet, go shop around with insurance companies and get the best price.
Since you bought the car from a private party I am going to assume that either A, you own the car outright; or B, you have a loan for the car through your bank.
In case A (loan): Set Collision deductible as high as your loan company (or bank) will allow, and rates will go down.
In case B (no loan): Drop collision coverage, your rates will shoot through the floor.
If you need me to explain how certain coverages work, or how you can lower your insurance just ask. I'll be watching this thread.

i'm 29 and have had 3 acidents(none were my fault, by the way) and several speeding tickets and have also gotten fined for running a stop sign and i pay $512 CAD for my MP3 every 6 months. that's $30 more than i was paying for my 93' MX-3 gs.
