State Dept of Insurance
Every state has a dept of insurance and an Insurance commissioner. All states regulate insurance.
If you want to make any complaints about your insurance, you can contact the dept of insurance and ask how you can file a complaint or write a letter to the state insurance commissioner.
Each state has different laws about insurance. Some require certain coverages, or some like it to be done a certain way. To fully understand how insurance works in your state, contact your dept. of insurance and ask them to send you a consumer guide. They should also be able to send you a listing of insurance companies that write insurance in your state. They might even be able to tell you which one is currently giving the best rates.

Drive like an animal.
No tickets, no crashes.
Alpha male with greying fur.
More fur on order from Canada...
The Progressive statement sez: "6 months - $342.07." Course State Farm tried to rape me for $520 @ 6 months before I kissed them goodbye...

Oh, hehe just so you guys know...
Here's a little tip if you're driving out in the sticks. If you see a deer, and you're going to hit it, dodge to another lane. If you have to drive onto the shoulder to avoid it, you might as well slam on your brakes and just hit it head on. Insurance companies will cover hitting a deer as a not at fault accident. If you swerve off the road and hit a tree, it's your fault. Same goes with collisions with cars. If someone is going to hit you, don't throw your car in the ditch to avoid it unless it means certain death otherwise. You will have the accident count against you. =)

I read all the posts here, and I go wtf. You can't all base insurance rates on just age and car. Many factors account for insurance, and not just accidents. I mean type of coverage, and don't say full coverage. Full coverage is something I can say, but I still might be missing pieces here and there from another broker/agent saying full coverage.
Does full coverage include things like loss of use, legal liability for damage to non-owned vehicles, limited waiver of depreciation, what's your deductibles, your liability rating, family protection, and a whole slew of other things. Full coverage with 1 mill liability and 1000 deductible will be different from full coverage with 2 mill liability and 100 deductible.
Too many factors involved to say someone is being raped by the insurance company. The reason why taxmasta is paying so much is he is a young single male, with pretty much a new license (Just got his full license i believe) and he's the primary driver with no rating. It will drastically fall each year he owns his car, but that's the way it goes when you are a young male with no record (not the same as a clean record).

Actually, usually young single males get an okay insurance premium until they get their first ticket/claim. Then the rate jumps a bunch. Also, he will most likely see a small rate decrease once he hits 21. If he is on his own policy, he will be paying more as well. You are also correct on the limits of liability and other coverages. If you have really low deductibles and really high coverages, then you will pay out the nose. If you have high deductibles and low coverage, then you will pay less.

That may be for you down where you are, but up here in Canada and in Toronto, that would be what he should be paying for his age group, being a single young male. I went to a canadian online insurance site and punched in some sample numbers, of both male and female of the same age.
Consistently females came up cheaper...the really young ones, where you just got your full license (in Ontario we have graduated licensing) where you have a clean record, and just received your G not too long ago 4 year record a single male would pay around $4800-$5000 a year, while a female with the identical record would pay $3200-$3700 a year. That's a big difference.
This site is fairly accurate too...and gives you quotes from 6-7 companies at once with a list of more than that for companies. And it lists the names of the company so you can call them direct. The quote I got online for MY insurance actually turned out cheaper than what I'm paying (only discovered this site recently)...so it is accurate, so don't say that they over or underprice...

Try it out for yourself if you want...
