I almost have my new MP5, but....

I almost have my new MP5, which is scheduled for delivery this week, but at the last minute received a call from my dealer and he told me that instead of yellow the car they shipped was red.

I ordered the car 6 weeks ago because I wanted the leather seats and spec'd it out exactly as I wanted it and now he is telling me that this is a recent phenomenon that all dealers are going through when they order yellow. Supposedly, whenever the order for yellow is put into the system it always changes it to red because they have either quit making the yellow or there is a shortage.

I asked if we could swap out my interior into a yellow one they have on the lot with the same options and depending on what all comes with the leather package they may be able to do it.

I started looking at the red ones and they are beginning to grow on me. Maybe I should just stick with red and see if I can save a few more bucks. What do you think? Is my dealer full of it?

I'd go with yellow over red, but that's just my opinion. It's not hard to swap out the interior, just a little time consuming. But if they want to make the sale, they'll do it since that's what you ordered. Just keep in mind, they're working for you, not the other way around. Sometimes, you just have to remind them of that. Get the yellow if that's what you want. Just get your interior with it.

MY opinion:

You asked for yellow, you ordered yellow, they said "yeah yellow sure no prob", and they hand you a red one. Wtf? Sure red one's look fine, but if you really wanted a yellow, why should you have to settle for less? If they promised you your car, specified the way you wanted it, then they should definitely swap interiors for you or have it PAINTED for you.
A car is an investment, something you're more than likely going to be looking at, driving, and taking care of for a few YEARS. You spent good money in good trust that you'd get what you wanted. Why should their be a problem getting a certain color on the P5? I don't understand... ok, so maybe there's a "shortage"... they make paint everyday don't they? Sounds like they messed up your order and are hoping that you're going to settle with what you get. Once again, just my opinion.

Don't settle fo red unless the dealer is willing to bank it in the red. I like red & yellow alike. Either way you will have a rare car. Not too many P5s on the road.

that's bs. no way mazda's gonna ship you something that you didn't order. wasn't there a hard-copy with the word yellow on it? either the dealer knew you wouldn't get the yellow with your options and banked on you settling for the red, or ...the dealer knew you wouldn't get the yellow with your options and banked on you settling for the red. bastards!

so anyways, make them paint the car. and use a color no one has! yeah, that'll be better. you'll have to wait a few more weeks, but then you'll have an original p5!

I know in Canada, the red P5 with leather comes with charcoal and RED leatherand the Yellow comes with charcoal and YELLOW leather. If it aint the same down there forget I wrote this. If it is the same, you might wantto rethink switching the interior.

Don't settle, if they won't do it for ya another dealer will.

DUDE... you wanted YELLOW...and I know why....its an eye catcher....its why I got it too.....do now SETTLE....it sounds like the dealer screwed up in some way.....if they don't get you the car YOU ordered....tell them you are going somewhere else. PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

as sure as the world is round...if you SETTLE for a different color....somewhere down the road you are going to wish you stuck to your guns and got the color YOU wanted in the first place.

...this is actually a pretty common scam that dealers try to pull.

Check here for more info: http://www.carbuyingtips.com/

I read the whole page back when it was split into 9 or so chapters. VERY good and helpful information.

It's going to help me get my Protege5 pretty soon... I just have to shake off the idea of that danged SE-R 1st.

If they sense you want that car and will wait or take another color, they WILL sell it to someone else who will 1. pay more 2. will not wait 3. will not take another color. Sorry dude, that's the way it works. If I were you (which admittedly I'm not) I would be looking at other dealerships, even if it meant taking delivery far away...what a great way to break in your a car A ROADTRIP. You can get your car serviced at any dealership. If it means waiting, well hey maybe by the time you get your car Mazda will have fixed the cold engine rattle. Otherwise buy the no it's not a ferrari, but it is red like an apple. Personally I'm a silver, white or black man (no comments here). It's gotta have like over 250 bhp before we starting about color.
What the hell are you smoking? That read like a spaz kid talks.

My dealer told me that 1 in 100 are manufactured in Yellow

I just picked up my Midnight Blue Mica MP5 last saturday. I love the yellow, but opted for the blue for "police attention" reasons.

The car is very nice. I am a LONG time BMW owner/mechanic, and am quite impressed with this cars materials, build quality, and handling dynamics VS. price/economy.

Unfortunately, I have experienced the high pitch wind noise many feel its the wipers. I disagree, at a constant 80mph, noise present, when the wipers are turned on, and accordingly move up on the windshield, the noise DOES NOT change. this indicates the its not the wipers. This weekend i will remove the rook rack rails, although the noise seems to be eminating from the hood/winsheild area.

Blue Mica MP5, Auto, Silver Wheels

future mods (like this weekend), Pioneer DX23 CD receiver, Rockford Fosgate Punch 100 amp, Blaupunkt Injected Graphite 5.25" componets, Blaupunkt 6.5" coax rear (will receive sub signal only), MB Quart 4" coax rear deck (rear fill), magnetic bra

At my local Stealer Markham Mazda they offer a leather package that is colour coded to the car.

That's an aftermarket leather package that your dealer is installing so it could be any colour the dealer or customer wants. I don't know if the P5 is officially available in Canada with leather from the factory yet the way it is in the US.
