I meant by Auto-Auto as completely auto, and not Sport-Auto (with Sport shift). What do you guys think of it? is it pointless?

Thanks

I don't have an automatic, but whenever I hear a car with a loud exhaust and auto I have to laugh. It sounds awful IMHO. My opinion is to trade for a manual if you are going to mod. Use auto's for what there're best at....commuting.

Why is that? I thought you can still manage the rpm just like the stick with the pedal :P, but of course just won't be as fun as stick. Also, with new intake and new exahust, it should still give you somewhat a boost? I mean, logically stick would be the car to mod for racing. For example, what about all the BMW with AC Schniezer performance mod? I believe they're still auto, but majority of people would still find them tight. :P

*sigh* I wish I have the money for trade in.

do what you feel like doing, realize many dragracers use auto trannys because they are faster in shifting, but manuals are much more fun, unless you stuck in trafic.
But i swear my next car (ether 82 stang 5.0, late 80s turbo supra/rx-7 or a hybrid crx) will be a stick

There is nothing wrong with modding an auto.... the auto just shifts for you. Sure a 5 speed would be much nicer, but if you dont have the power to back it up I think it is useles. But if you want to do some minor mods, I see why not.. i added an exhaust and short ram to my car, and yes there was a diference. But I removed the short ram since my mielage was suffering.... dont think you can add a performance mod and get more power PLUS more milage... just doesnt happen. I kept the exhaust on since ithink it looks better and it has a much nicer sound than stock... its not zingy at all... low tone that i like, and also i bought it at half price.

If i were you, just do what you want to your car.... its yours.

The only difference bw the auto and manual is auto shifts for you, but you might have more power loss in an auto transmission than a manual.

Good luck!

You have to mod it!!! Automatics 4 cyl's are so slow!!!!
Get a Supercharger-or a turbo- then maybe you can run with a stock 5 spd.
But seriously, its your car do whatever you want with.
Ultimately, an automatic doesn't make for a good racecar (don't bring F1 into this- I mean from a street car).
Speaking about 4 cylinder compact cars...
You can't launch an Automatic like you can a 5 spd.
You can't control exactly when it shifts or how fast it shifts. Racing is all about car control. Driving around everyday is not usually racing- though we like to think it is sometimes
And when you get stuck on I-4 in Bumper to bumper traffic- Automatic can be a beautiful thing.
So, unless you are going to race competitvely on the track, go ahead and mod out that Automatic- though expect 9/10 car geeks to shudder when you tell them its an automatic.

An turbo auto Protege would smoke a stock manual Protege.

I have an automatic Protege. Yes, it is slow. While I'd love to trade my Pro in for one with a manual tranny - it's not financially wise right now. I need to finish paying this thing off....almost there woohoo.

Go ahead and mod your car if you like, after all it's your car. I still enjoy driving my Pro. MP3 suspension is coming soon. Even in autox, I think I can do fairly well even though I'm 'handicapped' with an auto.

i've got an auto but ive also only got like 80whp to begin with so the auto sucks what little life is left in the thing. I just don't like the fact that the torque converter in most generic autos doesn't lock up in 1st and 2nd gear. Its so frustrating goin up a hill and mashing the gas and the thing rev's but very little happens.

The only thing I see auto's good for is eating in the car, which i will never do in my next car.
