sounds like the relay for the turn signals or the signal arm pin is broken . .I believe the flashers use a seperate relay circut .

My S10 used one flasher for the turn blinkers and another for the hazards...

Maybe the Protege uses the same system and you just need to replace a $5 flasher... :-)

Hi... In this case, a flasher is an electrical module that makes your signal lights blink.

In the S10, it was located in the fuse box compartment. It was a cylinder about 2 1/2 inches tall.

It started failing by blinking the signals erratically until one day it just died. Only took $5 in parts and 30 seconds to replace :-)

I guess in the Protege, it would be located in the same general area.

If your hazards work but not your turn signals, I'm pretty sure it is the flasher module that has failed.

i dont think proteges use the flasher your talking about, they use relays and fuses. On my '99 their are 2 bulbs in the turn signals, one for always on (running/parking lights) and one for blinking. When you turn on the turn signal i trips a separate relay for each side of the car but a single relay blinks both signals for the hazards. Open up the fuse box in the engine and listen to the relays to see if they are clicking on and off and compare that to the picture on the fuse box cover. Whichever isn't clicking is the problem. Also chack the fuses for the blinkers and the running lights. The relays cost about 2.99 and the fuses about 2.50 for like 20.

on the '02 Proteges it looks like the flashers and turn signals are controlled in one module (Flasher Control Module) located under the dash. If the 4 way flashers are working and the turn signals are not it might indicate something with the turn signal stalk. I would check the connections from it to the module.

Have you checked to see that any of you signal lamps are burned out? A lot of times, this can be the root of the problem.

Are you sure it's not still the old "silver can" blinker relays? You can get those anywhere for next to nothing. And there's usually 2 of them, 1 for the hazards and 1 for the blinkers.
