idle at 2000RPM !!!!!!!!!!!!!

MY idle was at 2000RPM just now when i switched the car on

i wanna find out what it may be....I know some 99-00 models have ignition coil problems
but my vin doesn't fit in between the numbers that have the problem...

i'm thinking that my engine may be cold and it was running a little faster to warm it up quicker

because the idle was really slowly going down
we did just get a huge snow storm...one night of snow and about 8 - 12 inches of snow...but my car was parked in the garage... so i dunno

I waited till the idle went down to about 750 - 800 RPM...took about 10 - 15 mins...then switched it off and went inside..and here i am now...

does anyone know what the problem could be...or is it just because its cold

I never noticed this in the previous years (3.5 years of owning this car)
but maybe i just didn't notice and it always happened.

also my car has a blown gasket or something....and the check engine light is on....we just need to get enough money to fix it. (dealer said it was a blown gasket)

but weve had this blown gasket for a month now, and this is the first time the idle went this high

sorry for the really long post....just concearned for the car

This is normal... Most if not all new cars do this in order to warm up the engine quicker. One thing to try, with a cold engine, start it up, wait for the idle to stabilize, then just tap the gas... The idle should return to just below or right on 2000 RPM. If this is the case, you're good to go. If it drops to 750-500 you'e got problems. Otherwise, it's perfectly normal.

No worries man, better that you asked, than have some kind of crazy problem. It's perfectly normal behaviour.

On another note, what's planned for your ride? I've heard you comment on a few things, but what's really big on your list right now?

By the way, what exactly is a VagaBond? I've heard that word about 5 times today alone!

It happens to my Pro sometime, especially when it's cold outside.

if you are still worried, Shift it into drive or some other gear besides P (assuming you have an automatic). as soon as you do that the idle should drop back down to the 700 wether it is warmed up or not.

well for right after winter (you know how our winters can be )when the snow is cleared
hmm
1.clear corners
2.altezzas (which look nice on light coloured cars like mine)
3.ingen cai
4.thermal exhaust (nightowl has got one)

but after that... i dunno....maybe turbo ( won't be near future tho)

by next summer I'm planning on getting myself a 2nd generation rx-7 (you've probably seen one of the numerous RX-7 posts I have made)
the rx-7 will be my main car, and a project car, preferablya TII.

i think I'll put a mazda windshield banner on both the pro and the rx-7, i also have an old '85 mazda 626 ,

my family is pure mazda hehe.

oh yeah and 5th item...some sick rims

but the items above are for sure...maybe 6th item...a wingswest style spoiler

VagaBond...hehe....i think the meaning is Drifter

hmm let me check dictionary.com

adj.
1.) Of, relating to, or characteristic of a wanderer; nomadic.
2.) Aimless; drifting.
3.) Irregular in course or behavior; unpredictable.

so basically Drifter-X hehe

the name came to me....back like 5 - 6 years ago I watched the Street Fighter animated Movie....(I used to love Ryu) and they called Ryu a vagabond that dropped off the face of the earth

so I took the name hehe

I guess your sig says it all:

I'm Only 17 so don't expect much

But you really should make an effort to learn the very basics about how cars work, so you won't have to post dumbass questions on a forum like this.

, comeon frankd, I do know the VERY basics in how cars work
I thought the engine was warming it self up too, but i know some of our cars (In the years my car was made) have ignition coil problems, which result in the car having a rough idle...but i didn't think it was anything as high as 2000rpm, so i posted to make sure, that it was just the engine warming up

and shall i tell you the very basics in how a car works
welll
we have I4, which mans we have 4 cylinders inline in our engine
each one has a piston which moves up and down.
there are valves at top which are connected to a camshaft, and as the cam shaft spins...one valve is opened, then closed, then the other opened, then closed....this process repeats itself.

one valve controls the intake port...the other controls the exhaust port...and this my friend is the basics to how a car works (shall i go into how gears in the transmission work)

do you want me to explain how the wankel (rotary) engine also works......??

If I'm wrong anywhere...someone please correct me..as frankd already pointed out...I'm only 17 and I don't know much

but seriously frankd ... even if it was a question which you feel is dumb ... it was discussed and solved...you didn't have to come up with your smart *** remarks

and i probably do have spelling mistakes above....but i'm not going to proofread a post, so no point in saying learn english properly or any **** like that

sorry for the long post all

I'm 17 too, and I take alot of offence to that. Frank, I bet I know more about cars and engines than you do! Go ahead and test me if you so choose, but seriously, just because I'm young, don't hate. And for reference, the car is MINE bought and almost paid for. Even insurance at $4000 a year is covered by me. Just in case jealousy is the motive for your attack on a young person, just know I worked my *** off for my car, so you can't hate.

You guys certainly know more than me..and I'm 20

hehe

But yeah this happens in my auto in park, usually around 1,500rpms but I'm keeping it in a garage, in California, so I expect it's still not as cold as you guys. So it sounds normal to me
