Incorrect Review!
Hey folks! Let's play Sesame Street!
Can you find what's wrong with this review?

I want to make sure I'm not the only one who sees it...

The 1.6 and 2.0-liter engines are built entirely of aluminum
whereas the 5 version entered the market in 2000

Which mistake?
I've never seen an "SE" model, unless it is Canadian.
Mazda no longer offers the 1.6 liter engine in North America.
Neither engine is made entirely of Aluminum.
The man is a putz...read the bio, I'm still crying from laughing so hard.

Clicking on the link brings me to msn.com, not msn.ca, and the review contains mostly US-specific info, although the way he throws in the odd mention of the SE (Canada-only) isn't helpful.
There are factual mistakes (not all Proteges are built in Hiroshima), editing mistakes (the doors on the sedan open 75 and 80 degrees, but on the Protege5 only 45 and 50 degrees?) and a confusing mix of Canadian and US info (at the end of the review, first the DX (US only) is 'bare-bones' and the SE (Canada only) is 'competitive' but a few lines later it's the SE that's 'bare-bones'). It's as if the article was written by committee.
This same reviewer also did a similar hatchet job in a review of the Subaru Forester not that long ago that contained all sorts of blatant inaccuracies, so he isn't singling out the Protege for this treatment.

It brings me to MSN.ca.
Also, you should note that Daniel Heraud is based out of Quebec. I would imagine he writes the majority of his reviews based on cars that he receives/sees in Canada.
It wouldn't surprise me if MSN decided to run the same article on Carpoint.com and Carpoint.ca (both are MSN's automotive sites)...in fact, I think they do.
I just think he's a poor writer (I'm not a fan of his writing at all). He seems so contradictory. He says that the Pros are that the Protege has "almost sporty handling" and "surprising road comfort," yet he then says a Con is that it has "light, overassisted steering."
And I don't know why he thinks the instruments are hard to read at night. Perhaps he didn't realize you can adjust that?
Finally, what's he talking about when he says lackluster performance? What's he comparing that to? A Porsche? Come on...compared to Corollas and Civics (ie. cars in the SAME category), it's not any worse.
Edit: The part about the "SE" being priced competitively is a typo I think. That should be the ES.

This is definetly geared towards U.S.A audience. Even the dealer info is about the States. How can this bring you to msn.ca, it's cleary msn.com. Anyways Daniel Heraud is a very confunsed individual.
BTW FYI The Protege5 was the best car in Quebec for 2002.

It does...believe me. Actually, what's happening is that the top banner is msn.ca. The article's pricing, etc is from msn.com. But, look...It's how MSN works. They just recycled the article and changed the dealer info for the country.

Regardelss, back on topic, there are a lot of mistakes in that article. An I agree, this guy is an idiot. I've read a lot of his reviews, and I don't think he's ever given a vehicle a rating of over 80%.

USA version has too short of a warranty, first thing I noticed.
And I don't know where that (apologies to TheMan) fucktard got light overassisted steering, if anything it would be the opposite.
But, I have a "fuzzy" manual gearbox. I guess I should be happy (WTF does that mean?). I don't think they know how to do a 0-60 test either, it took them 10.5 seconds.

Actually I did hear some complaints in major magazines on the MSP's lighter steering. Road and Track(regarding the MSP) said a Mazda tech said the rack was revised in 03 to be a little lighter, but as said above earlier 3rd gens had heavy steering compared to competition...
How does a heavier P5 have more powerful brakes? They are exactly the same to the ES models aren't they? And I agree the accleration tests were driven by *********, even Car and Driver who seems to get lower acceleration times than most mags claim 0-60 in the high 8, low 9 sec range...And everyone that tested a stock ES or P5 at a track had no trouble getting below mid 17's I thought...
