Info about Mazda E and S Plan pricing

I bought a 02.5 Protege ES this weekend on S-Plan. This is what the dealer said dealership employees qualify for. My wife qualifies for Ford D-plan, her brother is (was) a dealership employee (Mercury). Actually, I'm not even sure if we qualified for S-plan, there was no proof required, just filled out a form after all paperwork was signed and financing down that didn't even include the Ford Pin number? S-plan on the Protege is just invoice (may have been slightly cheaper, can't remember), dealer said "E-plan" was just for direct employees of Mazda. They supplied a copy of the invoice with E and S plan prices on it.

The deal sucks compaired to Ford D-plan, which is well under invoice, ie I'm looking at buying a Mustang GT for another daily dirver and D is ~$900 under invoice. Also, on D, there can be no dealer processing or doc fees. We were charged fees, although they weren't bad.

So what I'm looking for:
1) Can there be processing or doc fees on S-plan?
2) Any info on qualifications for E and S-plan.

i qualified for s-plan on my protege, since the company i work for is an automotive supplier. (ITT Industries) s-plan is to be a fixed price, and is noted on the invoice. for mazda's, it works out to slightly less than invoice pricing, but slightly more than a-plan pricing. (i belive it is a-plan for direct mazda emplyee's) for my car, s-plan was roughly $500 less than invoice and i paid no other dealer fees for the car, with the exception of taxes and licensing fees. (i needed new plates and registration) my car was never on the dealer lot prior to me purchasing it, either.

in my opinion, the dealer you bought from is trying to make some money from your sale after having to accept the purchase at the s-paln pricing.

if you are a ford or mazda employee they cannot charge you document or processing fees...it is expressly forbidden by Ford for dealerships to do this to employees

I looked at the deal with the S-Plan because I qualify since our company is owned by Alcoa. I'm interested in the Yellow P5 but couldn't believe that it is not included in the s-plan deal, all other colours are, kinda weird. I was talking to a buddy of mine about these plans, he is a Manager at Erin Mills Mazda here outside of Toronto and he says people come in and look to buy a car on the s-plan so he gives them their price. But of course that's not enough so they ask for more discount on top of it, he says it almost renders the whole plan idea useles since nobody is happy anyways.

ANY Mazda is eligable for the plan; it depends on whether or not the dealer chooses to honor it. Your dealer obviously values a markup on the VY P5 rather than your business. My dealer has no problem giving me S-plan on a VY P5; however, I did not receive it on my VY Miata, because it was special order, and the dealership chose not to allow the S-plan on the car. Some others that bought the VY Miata in the special order program were given the S-plan pricing at different dealerships.
If you qualify for the program, you should have access to the website, found at www.fordpartner.com. All your answers can be found there.
In summary:
S-Plan Pre-determined price based on Mazda Employee price ("E-Plan") and noted on the dealer invoice
Mazda E-Plan + 5.3%

From the FAQ:
Who is eligible?
Active employees (salaried, hourly and contract), retirees, members and their spouses who reside within the U.S. You will be required to show proof of employment or membership by an organization or company eligible for Partner Recognition benefits at the time you take delivery of your vehicle.

Can I be charged a "document fee" by my dealer?
No. Fees for documentation or similar administration services are not allowed.

I believe, though, that once a dealer has chosen to participate he must honor ALL S-Plan discounts offered by Mazda. However, like for the MP3 and special edition vehicles like that there is no S-Plan pricing. To make it even more annoying relatively new vehicles (ie. the Protege5 when it first came out) are not offered with S-Plan pricing until they have been out awhile.

the s-plan is full of crap.

Maybee just in canada, but when I got my P5 I went to one dealer and got the s-plan price (using the proper paperwork from my company) then went to another and negotiated a price. They were almost exactly the same. Less than $100 canadian diff.

But in the end I bought one from my cousin who basically showed me the S-plan and the so called "dealer invoice" price. In Canada the MSRP is only $1500 more than "dealer invoice". (in case you don't know "dealer invoice" is what the dealer is supposed to pay for the car. But I know that they get volume discounts)

I got a much better price, yellow(in two weeks when people were waiting months for em), and some nice freebe's thrown in.

Kirk from the same FAQ off the fordpartner.com website:

"Which Ford Motor Company vehicles are eligible?
Virtually all Ford, Lincoln, Mazda, Volvo, and Land Rover vehicles are eligible. Ford Super Duty F450-F750, Thunderbird, Range Rover, Aston Martin, 2001 SVT vehicles, 2001 Harley-Davidson F-150, Jaguar, Mazda MPV, Protege5 in Yellow and Miata Special Edition in Yellow vehicles are not included in this program. This list is subject to change. "

Even your yellow Miata is listed here.

Hey Bumble_G, your from Maple? I'm not to far from you...I'm in Bolton. Do you go to Prima Mazda? I was talking to the Parts guy there Kenny and he told me that a supplier of his is expecting performance chips and headers for the P5 in the next month or so. He's supposed to call me and let me know, I hope it's for real.

I get a great deal from Erin Mills Mazda, we picked up a Tribute 3 months after they were available in a week when others were waiting for a month or more and we picked it up for dealer cost. I should get a pretty good deal on my yellow P5 come october.

You must be looking at the Canadian version. From the US version:

Which Ford Motor Company vehicles are eligible?
Virtually all Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda, Volvo, and Land Rover vehicles are eligible. In addition, cash allowances are available for Jaguar vehicles. Super Duty F450-F750, Thunderbird, Range Rover and Aston Martin vehicles are not included in this program. This list is subject to change.

My appologies, since it appears to vary between Canada and the US.
FWIW, that's not my Miata they're referring to; that's the 2002SE, which is in Blazing Yellow. There are only 1000 of these in the States; dunno about Canada. I think this is the only color you guys got for the SE up there; we've got two down here (Blazing Yellow and Titanium--1500 of these), and both are eligable for S-plan. My Miata is Vivid Yellow, and was available during a short period via internet order only. To the best of my knowledge, this special order program for Miatas (all Miata colors, but it was also the only way to get one in Vivid Yellow or Lazer Blue Mica) was not applicable in Canada.

Thumbs up

FINALLY! After a shitload of trouble. Driving all over San Diego County. We went back and got the same DAYOM MP5 that we first test drove. Anyway, I'm just glad that it's over. BTW, if anyone is wondering. Thanks to this discussion, I remebered to check with my workplace and foundout that I could also get the "S-Plan" deal. So, we got the 48months @ 0.0% financing, and first payment not due til Jan 2002, through the "S-Plan". So, I felt we got a fair deal out of it all. Thanks everyone!

Congrats!

I've decided to hold off on one for now, pending an inevitable house purchase. I should be able to pounce on 0% when it's offered next year.

Plans

I work for Ford Financial.

A-plan is for Ford vehicles only and it includes employees and close family members. To take advantage of this discount, an employee must obtain a pin #. Each employee can receive 4 a year. The supplier discount is called the X-plan and it is what most of you are referring to. Of course some A-plan approved employees sell pin # for extra cash.

Mazda'a A-plan is called the S-plan and it is not the 4% under invoice A-plan, but still is a nice savings.

As mentioned above, dealers DO NOT have to give you the discount.

And on another note, don't expect to see much of a savings using the A, X, or S-plan if you have a trade in. All the dealer will do is make up the loss of potential revenue from the new car sale on the trade in. I would suggest to all of the potential plan buyers who have a trade in, to get a firm price on your trade in before anything. Do not give them any information about your current trade in or your new car idea. Tel them that before any negotiations, my business with you is contigent upon the money you give me for my trade in.

I will leave all of you with that general info.

Regards,

John
