I recently purchased an '01 Protege DX with a 5 speed and no tach. I have found an '03 Protege in a local yard with an auto and a factory tach. The question is, can I swap the instrument clusters and have a tach and correct speedo. Thanks BB

 

Search around in here. Someone did the swap and the tach didn't work. Another did it and it did work. The mileage stays with the actual cluster, not the car it's installed in.

 

Just installed the cluster and everything works. Wow, spent $50 and the car looks 10,000 miles newer....... BB

 

be very careful about ever selling the car. You will have a mileage disclosure statement. Be VERY careful about how you answer those questions. It's considered a federal crime to not disclose the correct mileage.

 

It will live out the rest of its life as my work car unless the oldest child takes a liking to it when she turns 16. I am aware of the problems that can come to someone who adjusts the odo. and tries to pass it along to someone else. The little jewel was a wrecked repo and we are putting her back together. When all is finished I should have clean, fuel efficient, and dependable work car...with a tach. BB
