Interesting News
I just returned from Vancouver, B.C., (I live in Minnesota) and saw SO MANY Pro5's in Vancouver! I mean, they were everywhere.
Now, I consider Canadians, and Vancouverites specifically, very enlightened about transit and cars, etc.
So, if Car & Driver weren't enough, we now have the Vancouver stamp of approval.
Actually, it was just cool to see what it's going to be like to see Pro5's everywhere on the road! However, at least here, I can count 4 out of 7 cars at a stoplight as a VW--sometimes more. It's nice to have something a bit more...unique.
For what it's worth...

Well speaking for the Canadians here, its taste man!! we have taste
Also.. this kinda is the same subject, so instead of starting it on its own thread i was wondering ?
More P5's on the road good or bad ??
Its so nice to have one of those cars not many others have but, at the same time more out there means better aftermarket, support, etc...
Butt i am still wondering does it bug you or make you feel proud to see another p5 where you live? I guess i be happiest if i was the only one where i am but there were tons eerywhere else.
K going back to my IGLOO now

As much as I love the P5, I wouldn't want to see it all over the place. That's the beauty of having one.. there's a good number out there for not too much to make you sick.
If you want a car that everyone has, get a Cavalier or Honda...they pop babies every day!

Protege is a great car, that's a fact. It provides great value thanks to its excellent combination of dynamic abilities and styling.
Protege is the 3rd best-selling car in Canada this year.
My girlfriend's sister brought an Sunbrust yellow P5 with factory-lowered springs/shocks/suspension kit and BBS RX wheels. Its quite a looker, also a bargain considered just 2 grand more than the fully loaded price.

You're totally correct. Practically everybody AND their kids AND their pets drive a Protege5 in sunny Vancouver . That's one thing that does bug me about the car. I guess it makes sense though, it's practical, inexpensive, caters to many different markets, etc. I was surprised to see one post somewhere in this forum where someone down south mentioned that one of the pluses of owning the Protege5 is that it is rare. Within a 2 block radius of my house, there are 3 other Protege5's. A yellow, silver & blue. I just added a white exactly one week ago & the main reason why I got white was because it's a new colour up north, so not as common.... yet.

I live in Chilliwack which is just about an hour outside of Vancouver. I am 19 and EVERYONE AND THERE DOG in my age group has what? 97-00 Civic Si. I wanted one too. Then i saw the 2002 Protege ES/GT.....loved it. NO ONE had one in Chilliwack and i had never even seen this model before. I bought the 2002 in November of 2001 so it hadnt been out for a while. Then they started to sell....and sell....and sell. When i bought mine it was the only GT on the lot. Now our local Mazda dealer has 5 all the time on there. I talked to the salesman and he said it has been the most successful year since 1982!!! Now EVERYONE here has one. Not too many GT's, mostly DX's....but still. There are 2 P5's and 5...YES 5 sedans where i work. When i started i was the only one. They are the new Civic Si...but wait, stock they beat them in every way....! I guess we have to take joy in the small comforts. By the way, i have lived in Chilliwack for about 10 years......we have had snow MAYBE 5 Winters....most of the time about an inch and it s gone by the next day. All it does is rain here.

All the corvette people wave at each other as they drive by, wouldn't be cool if the Protege' owners did the same???
More sold = more aftermarket support...bring it on...after all don't we want to rule the world with Mazda?

Miata drivers used to do that too. I remember the first time I drove by another Miata & the guy smiled & waved. It's one of those random, nice things that happen to you that brightens up your day. You'd figure that with more Protege(5)'s being sold, there'd be a little more aftermarket support but it doesn't seem to be happening. There isn't much or doesn't seem like there will be. I'm just waiting for a turbo kit..

There are not too many P5's in cow town but they are starting to become more and more common. When I purchased mine there were only a dosen in the city. I really liked that, you would not believe the looks I got everywhere I drove. The guy at the dealership also told me that I was the first in the city to get the car with leather as well, it was nice to feel exclusive, but that was short lived.
I really hope that this car sells more and more. I also want there to be more aftermarket parts for this car. It was also encouraging to find out that the owner of a performance shop here in town is also an owner of a P5 (RPM racing). I think that says something about the car, when his clientel is now doubt primarily Honda and Acura owners.
