Cool Interior Swap Anyone?

I have a 2002 protege5, exterior is red, interior is black. All the interior is in very nice condition. I was wondering if anyone out there with gray interior would like to do a swap for my black interior??? I live in painesville, ohio. If anyone is interested let me know?

Thanks,
Chris

P5s only came with two interior types--charcoal cloth and black leather. Do you mean you want to switch with the MSP interior, which has orange stitching and "titanium" gray accents? Or maybe some other (lesser) Protege?

I was unaware that the P5's only came with 2 interior colors. I would like to do an interior swap though. If there is a tan interior, I would swap with that.

Why do you want to swap? It's really none of my business, but curiosity got the better of me.

I would like to swap out my seats, headliner, carpet, and door panels.

Just try and change it up a little

^^ you'd have to get stuff from a DX/LX Protege, and the seats aren't the same thing. Aside from that yeah it's a personal choice, but swapping everything but the dash, steering wheel, and center console would look mighty awkward.

dude you have a sick a$$ car. So what you guys are trying to tell me is to leave my car alone, as far as an interior swap would go, and maybe just do some light mods? I just thought the P5 might look pretty slick with gray interior.

I have only owned the car for a couple months now, but their is so much I would like to do to it. I have never owned a Mazda before, and after having 3 Volkswagens, it's taking some time to adjust.

Once I do a couple things to my car, I think I will like it a lot better! So any help would be appreciated

a gray interior would look a lot nicer than tan, that's for sure. You can get gray pieces from the DX/LX as well, they were available with different interior colours, and plus if you did gray the dashboard wouldn't look terribly out of place. -- plus you wouldn't need to replace the seats

did you turbo your mazda, or was it already turboed, so the protege DX/LX interior will fit in my car?

Yeah the DX/LX parts will fit. 99-03 the dashboard is the same, door panels are the same, carpet is the same, steering column cover should be the same. The center console piece changed twice during that time. If you have the open cupholders (2002.5+), you can switch to ones that have a flip down lid (they are smaller and most people don't like them), but the silver on the piece won't be as bright as your current one. There's also a black cupholder/shifter trim piece available and I'm assuming a tan one too. The trim piece around the shifter boot is the same whether it's an auto or manual.

The DX/LX also has green illumination on all the interior stuff as well as black gauge faces vs the white or silver that you have (white for 2002.0, silver for 2002.5 and up).

If you have any specific interior swapping questions let me know and I'll let ya know if I have any answers.

As for the turbo, I did it myself. The only 3rd gen Protege that came turbo was the Mazdaspeed Protege (2003-2003.5, limited production):

if you are interested here's a picture of the Mazdaspeed Protege interior.. any piece is a direct swap for the Protege5:

the seats look different but it's just a different cover.

You actually have quite a bit of flexibility with interior mods just buying different OEM parts and swapping them.

enjoy!

Yeah man, I like that interior a lot, I think that would look real nice in my P5. Now all I need to do, is to find out how to get going on this project, and where to find that interior.

The pedals and shift **** are sparco, but have mazda part numbers. The steering wheel is the same as the P5 steering wheel but with different leather. People have big problems with the silver leather (as it is obviously a coating on the leather) getting permanently dirty looking and worn. The 2003.0 has orange stitching on everything (seats, steering wheel, etc) and the 2003.5 has yellow. The 2003.5 also has the same shift **** but with "MAZDASPEED" on it instead of SPARCO, and the pedals are different (they aren't the same pedals, and they say "MAZDASPEED" on them. I know I have pictures of my mazdaspeed pedals somewhere around here.

The mazdaspeed Protege also had two different floormats available. One set has "MAZDASPEED" embroidered in much like the stock P5 ones say "MAZDA" or something (I don't remember). I think those are the 2003.0 The 2003.5 has a reinforced rubber piece where your heels rest when you are on the pedals, and it says MAZDASPEED molded into that. I doubt there are really any pictures online of the mats, but I have them so I can get pictures of them if you'd like.
