Ion3 vs. Protege5

1- If you cant see the gauges without your glasses you shouldn't be driving without glasses
2- My father has owned 3 Saturn's and has had very good experiences with them, he is also far from a dumb-***
3- You shouldn't be so smug guaranteed somewhere someone got a better deal then you

1. It's called sarcasm, look into it.
2. What kind of family buys 3 Saturns? You care so much about an easy dealership experience and shoddy plastic door panels that you won't buy a car that is cheaper, more reliable, and better equipped? You may as well just have purchased a Hyundai.
3. I guarantee that on the last two cars I purchased that there are very few lucky SOB's that got a better deal than us. I work at a dealership computing supplier. I know the real invoice / pack (not the bullshit one you get off of Edmunds) for every vehicle on their lot and can usually find out their financing kickback. All you do when you buy a Saturn is guarantee the dealership a huge chunk of change in profits from the car and a huge kickback on financing if you are dumb enough to let them do it for you. We leave very little for the dealership when we are done negotiating a deal, on the Accord we cut them an actual loss.

My sister had a '93ish Saturn for two years, it had high miles on it, but the only thing she ever had to replace were the brake pads and various other normal maintenece items belts, etc.
So what's so bad about buying cheap reliable cars, not unlike our mazdas?

that's what saturns are cheap and reliable. it's true, not everyone has the cash to buy an import or a more expensive car.
for basic transportation the saturn and cavalier will do just fine.
but if you have the cash and are still buying cheap crap...well, then you're a sucker.

Menace- not to continue to defend Saturns, But I have attended many traffic accidents in winter involving Saturn's, and have never seen any of the plastic side panels either explode or shatter
kc5com- Why would someone be a moron to consider a Saturn reliable if he has had 3 Saturns and never had a mechanical problem? Also some people do not want expensive options, but as stated cheap reliable transport. Finally, residual value is immaterial if you lease

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm....
Mazda Protege LX (Power windows and locks)
Low low negotiable price of $15,835
Edmund's True Value (BS high): $14,942
Price any decent negotiator would get: $14,839
Saturn Ion (similarly equipped)
Non-negotiable $14,900
Cheap my ***, just a big ripoff. But hey, you can get the worst 5-speed automatic in the industry for an additional $900 so it isn't a total loss. And you can drive a car where the lower body panels don't match the A-pillar. What idiot leases a Saturn? That's just handing the dealer an extra huge chunk of change for a car that nobody should lease. If you can't afford to finance a car under $15k then you need to get a life and lower your expectations a little.
Not to mention the huge body gaps that come from using an inferior material to build the car with. People who buy Saturns are sad sad little individuals who just want to avoid confrontations with mean dealership sales people and believe everything they see on TV.

I have to say that if I bought a car every 2 years I would expect it to not have a single mechanical problem in that time frame. Follow those same, non-original styled Saturns a few years down the road and you are sure to encounter many problems. I find that they don't deal well with winter, (not because they spontaneously combust) their parts don't like the cold. I have owned my 98 right from the beginning and all I have replaced on it were the brakes (obvious replacement that happens) and the spark plug wires (because they got fried after I tried to scrub the engine, oops).
The thing I hate the most about Saturns is that they don't come up with their own boy styles. Every vehicle that they make looks like something else on the road. The Ion is the first car that has some of its own unique lines.
To whoever compaired the Saturn to the Hyundia couldn't be more right. Nothing makes me mad like seeing a Saturn trying to be an import ("riced-up"). The only thing thats worse is the idiot drivers in Hyundias. I have yet to see a compedent driver behind the wheel of a Tiburon or Accent (retarded drivers). Not to mention that my 98 Pro can beat a dim witted Tiburon.

My friend bought a Saturn used not too long ago. He loves it, he's proud to OWN a car cause he worked hard and payed for it. Thing is, EVERYTHING IS BROKEN. I swear that car is falling apart. It's like a 98 or something too.

I had a 96 Saturn for 3 days as a courtesy car. They shouldn't be allowed to give those out at all. Granted it was probably beaten to hell and had 74000km but the interior just sucked. The dead pedal was way too high. I couldn't extend my left leg the same amount as my right leg. My knee kept hitting the steering wheel whenever I had to use the clutch. The shifter was really sloppy and I almost kept missing gears up or downshifting. The interior materials were shoddy. Looked like cheap plastic instead of real vinyl. My 91 pro even has better interior/dash. The carpets on this thing is crap. Uggh..Hurts when I have to think about it.
