Just installed B&M shifter
I just finished installing my short shifter. The install went well but it took longer than expected. I put my old **** back on and it looks good. I went for a drive and all I can say is everyone should own one of these. Its very precise and smooth and short. It does take some more effort but i like the feeling. I payed $140 for it at Tripoint.

I am sending out my cash for one of these on Monday....and I am going to help out Mitch at Protege5 Online by taking a lot of pictures during the install and sending them to him....so they can put together a page to help people out and answer these kinds of quesitons.

I got mine in just after Christmas....I love it. It takes a lot of the slop out of the shifter, and it's not so soft. It's more clunky like my dad's miata....NICE!!!! I'd say it took a good inch and a half off the height or so. Anyhow, if you have the money, GET ONE!!!!! It took about an hour or so to do and once you get the the clip out that holds it in, it's a breeze. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AN INTERNAL RING CLIP COMPRESSOR!!!! it'll make life so much easier. you can get it out with a flat head screwdriver, but getting it in is soo much easier. The directions for the B&M actually come with pictures so you don't get lost. THANKS B&M!!!!!!!

does any one have ANY pictures of this thing? i would like to see it on it's own, perhaps in a comparison shot with the stock shifter, both being out of the car. i don't think seeing it installed, all covered up with the boot and **** are going to provide any good comparisons.
i replaced my factory **** with a voodoo ****, and if i had before and after pictures, you couldn't tell the difference. but when you hold the two next to each other, you can see that the voodoo is about 1 inch shorter.

Shortening stock shifter
ign'ant question here...
I was reading on another board (can't find the relevant thread anymore, else I'da posted it) some dude apparently simply removed the 'extention' off of his stock P5 shift stick. I haven't removed the cover from my stick yet ('cause I've just been to lazy), but feeling through the 'leather', it does seem that this would be a viable option for shortening. Could someone please tell my why this won't work, so I don't get my hopes up for a cheap short shift?

freak...you can do that....however....you don't really shorten the throw that much....you still have pretty much the same feel in your shifter....just that the shaft is a few inches shorter. its a short cut...to make your ride LOOK like you have a short throw shifter.....when you really don't.
