Post Just some questions to get started...

Alright,
Whats the highest compression piston you can fit in the 00 ES (1.8L)with out any problems, and if there are problems, what are they?

What kind of gains would you expect to see if you installed the Wagner header and also removed the cat? (Yes I know you'll get a CEL and my solution to that is the O2 sim.)

I'll hit you guys up with some more based on the responses I recieve. Thanks for the help.

Another one...

Are there any other motors that are compatable with the 1.8L DOHC in the 99 ES?
Parts swappable?? What is the difference between the 98 1.8L and the 99??

Highest CR you can run?? I dunno, how high do you wanna go and what are you planning to do with your engine?? Anything can be made. Tripoint uses 13:1 CR but their engines dont last long. Turbo? Nitrous? what??

The wagner header on the stock cat and MS muffler made 7whp and 10lb/ft. By removing the cat also you may lose some low-end torque but you'll probably pick up another 5-7hp. p.s. Wagner can make you his shorty header with a catless downpipe if you want.

As for the pistons, I'm looking at just safe enough to not run race gas. I'm looking for a nice all motor set up.

As for plans-
port and polish the head
port match everything
possibly extrude hone the IM
I haven't found any head components for the Protege, i.e. valves, springs, retainers...???
Cam gears
What do you know about those cams that Wagner is coming out with???
Forged Rods and Pistons
Pulleys
Basically a strong all motor build up. In the end n2o is a thought, only b/c it loves high comp.

Thanks for the info about the shorty's and the no cat downpipe

The FS-ZE Pistons are 10.7 to 1...they are pretty much drop in, however you really need some kind of fuel and spark control to get the full potential out of them....the 2.0L FS-DE and FS-ZE(jspec) can swap parts with the 1.8L...check SR Motorsports for cam gears and underdrive pulleys

would an external msd coil do the trick for spark? and maybe an upgraded fpr for fuel??
maybe a protege guy could be more specific for ya

why is a civic (non-protege) owner on here looking for advice/parts anyway??

protito, you need a clear cut and well thought-out plan before you decide on doing ANY of this. Protege's are NOT easy to build up NA and cost a FORTUNE. You're better bet would be a turbokit from someone. You'd spend $3600 on a turbo kit for 180whp or $5000 for an NA motor build with 130whp.

Lol,uh,no...MSD has yet to make a compatible system with 3rd gen protege's DIS ignition system...trust me the spark is NOT an issue for building power..I've yet to see ANYONE go beyond the capabilities of the stock system..it's more of controling the ignition timing to lean out the burn to make more power...like I said mazda's run dog rich
