just a thought
i was thinking about something i have a 00 pro lx and i got a few mods but i could hook my car up till im blue in the face and still probably get beat by an 00 es bone stock . So is it worth hooking up a car if its less than top of the line ? But even if my modded lx can beat a es what about when the es has mods and stuff also? But i was just thinking about that, well i basically hook my car up for maximum power anyway since we have so little power to begin with so i guess it wouldnt hurt. But if all of us had the money we would of got top of the line to begin with just a thought

i believe the question you are asking is the premise of the whole ricer boy movement;
take a car that was not top of it's line (smaller engine etc)
mod the crap out of it with every bolt on APC makes.
and it's still slower then the next car above it, but at least you think you look and sound fast.
seriously though. if you like your car, and you enjoy tossing money at it, then mod it however you want. it's your car not ours.

well somewhat riceboy and somewhat not, say someone has a celica gt with exhaust and intake and a celica gt-s pulls up next to him he will more than likely they will still lose to a stock gt-s with no mods b/c he has a top of the line better car more hp so im just saying i see alot of base model cars with i/h/e and stuff but will still lose to there bigger brother. why not get the gt-s instead of trying to make the gt model a gt-s

I think this point is really moot. I mean you can modify any car until you are blue in the face and still get trounced by somebody in a faster car.
I say you get the car you want....if you want the lower model get that and just do what you can to it. I mean this whole premise of well...you could just get the ES...well you could just get the MazdaSpeed Protege, or the WRX which is faster than that, Or a Camaro which is faster than that, or the Z06 which is faster than that or the 911 turbo which is faster than that, or the McClaren F1 which is faster than that.
There is always gonna be a better/more expensive car that can beat you and if you are worried that a better more expensive car is gonna be faster than you, you are gonna have problems for the rest of your life...LOL.

no im not talking about zo6 vs 911 im saying why get the civic dx model instead of the ex vtec model? Yeah you going to spend all that money into a turbo for the dx why not just get the ex with all the money your spending on the dx and have a 21 hp increase from the ex over the dx of the jump then turbo that . basically why get the low end of the stick and im talking about same model cars it was just a thought

I agree with most people here. Well lets use an example that easy for me to explain. I looked at the regular focus ZX3's then at the SVT which I ended up buying from my friend. The SVT as you know is the top of the pile for performance in the Focus line. The 130hp ZX3 would have been a really good choice if I wanted to get the straight line performance. I mean there are a lot more parts for a base ZX3 then there are for the SVT because the engine is more basic in the base ZX3 then that in my SVT. I guess what I'm trying to say is.. the engine that's less modified is easier to modify. Where is there to go once an engine has reached its peak which is about what the Foci is running at. I know they have superchargers and turbos for it but that requires more mods then I can afford. Its the same i found out with my 99 ES. A 99 DX with 5 spd. and mildly modified burnt my close to stock butt! woo.. I ran a 17.956 and he had a 17.5. I was pretty embarrassed. I hope i helped!
