Keyless Entry....

Hi All!

I asked this on another Protege board so if you've seen it, please disregard this post!

The P5s come with keyless entry (different from the alarm). The dealer told me that, not only is it keyless entry but supposedly it acts somewhat like an alarm in the sense that if somebody tries to break the lock or start the car without the keys, the horn will start beeping. (much like when you hit the panic switch) He says it won't do anything if a window breaks or anything like that.

Personally I think it's BS but I was wondering if anybody else heard or experienced this.

I know it's not the alarm option because I asked him about that as well and I ain't got it on this car.

Thanks!

-dave

ps I do not have the factory installed alarm system with perimeter sensor etc.

Never heard...

I think the dealer is BS! If the keyless entry would serve as an alarm, don't you think it would be mentionned in their info booklet or the Mazda website? Me thinks so...

Exclamation I Call Bullshit!

Survey says: Full of ****!

I could be wrong, but I think the keyless entry system has no other function than serving as a "Panic alarm"; meaning the kind of thing that you can activate manually using your remote control if you need to draw emergency attention. Aside from that I'm reasonably certain there is no other alarm function whatsoever; unless you buy the optional factory alarm system, which includes a shock sensor.

It doesn't serve as an alarm at all, Roll down the window hit the lock button reach in and open the door from the inside handle. No alarm. get in the car hit the lock button on the remote and then start the car, again no alarm or starter interrupt.

No.

Doesnt the sedan have a trunk release under the drivers seat? If it does, you could set your unlock button on your keychain to unlock the trunk. This doesnt come standard, but can be done with some electronic mods.

Lightbulb Sedan Trunk Release: Yes.

The Pro sedan, on the ES and I'm pretty sure also on the LX (Gen. 3'ers), DO have a remote trunk release. It's purely a mechanical release lever, though, which is located between the driver's seat and the door; along with the fuel door release lever. Because it's mechanical, unfortunately I don't see any practical way that you could get a keychain remote control unit to open the trunk. That's one of the only things I like about GM cars, in my experience: The ones that have a trunk release are electronic, so you just push a button to open the trunk while you're in the car (it's usually located in the glove compartment), and most of the keychain remotes also have a trunk release button. Aside from that, in my opinion GM sucks ***.

P5 alarm

Has anyone hit the panic button on a P5 and tried to start the car? I tried, and it doesn't start. Seems to me that there is some sort of an alarm....just doesn't quite have all the pieces a typical alarm has.
