keyless entry works!!
Ok, I need some clarity on this one. I spent the last few weeks collecting the necessary items to put a factory keyless entry system in my sons 2002 Protege ES (keyless entry module, key fob, door lock timer relay.) The problem was i could never find the harness for the keyless entry module. Everyone says its mounted under the rear deck inside the truck but damned if i could locate the harness plug. I even tried looking under the drivers side dash where the door lock timer relay goes. Now the car came with the factory alarm system so i don't know if that makes any difference. After searching for 1/2 hr for the harness plug i finally gave up. Just for laughs I tried to program the key fob using the instructions and the keyless entry works!! My question is how can the keyless entry work without the keyless contro module? Is it replaced by the factory alarm box? You would think there would be a harness connector matching the contro module around somewhere. Anyone have any experience with this. It's more of a curiousity thing now.

i can do some research for you, i tried to install the factory alarm once (turned out to be a defective module). my car already had keyless entry.
if i remember correctly the factory alarm is a piggyback to the existing keyless entry system. so if the car came with the factory alarm, it already had keyless entry. you probably only needed to reprogram the fob to get it working again.
