Question Keyless trunk release

Is it possible to program a 4 button remote from a mazda 6 to work with a gen 3 protege? I am wanting to add a keyless remote trunk release and need the extra button. It sucksthough that the stock trunk release is a mechanical lever. I will need to convert to a electrical switch for it to work. Anyone have any insight to this?

sorry i dunno much bout electrical systems, but i do know that most after market alarms have the ability to add a keyless trunk release. all thats needed is a solenoid in the trunk and its ready to go. good luck

Does anyone have a how to on putting in a solenoid for remote trunk release. I was thinking about getting parts from a 626 and use that. I know that they have remote keyless trunk release and a 4 botton fob.

Eh, I just used the bog standard kit that everyone seems to sell and hooked it into my aftermarket RKE (1999 models did not have factory RKE). I did add a circuit to decrease the output time on the RKE though, since it held the solenoid for about a second (I reduced it to ~1/4 second).

The kit looked like this (although without the black sleeve for the solenoid cable):

I mounted the solenoid to the trunk lid so it can pull directly on the latch mechanism. IIRC, I used an existing hole and drilled one beside it to mount the solenoid.
