Whoops! Sorry, fraay, no offense intended. That's just what I tell my buddies who refuse to learn how to drive a stickshift.

Oh geez.. no offense taken of course!! I was kidding around.. even I might take a second look at a guy who bought a p5 brand new and paid extra to get an auto unless it was because he has kids or his wife made the call

Being female is just my excuse for me doing it.. cuz *twirls hair* girls are too dumb to *giggles* drive a stick.. I'm kidding here too! But you guys would be damn jelous if you knew how much that helpless girl bullshit gets us deals on car stuff

I'll bet...When I worked in a garage I was always a sucker for a damsel in distress...I call it "Dudley Do-Right Syndrome."

I think traffic conditions would be a huge factor for some people, if your sitting in bumper to bumper traffic for hours every day, the automatic is a no brainer.

I've learned on stick..... and i will always drive with a stick...

Manual all the way!!!

I love having control over my car.....

Plus the traffic excuse so many people bring up..... i don't really see it.... I'm so used to manual that on everyday normal driving i don't even realize i'm shifting or anything like that... it all comes natural...
Even when i'm racing sometimes... i don't even think about shifting.....But i try to make an effort when i'm racing it.... so that i can shift at the best spots for power... or try to at least....

I've driven a couple of friends autos... I hate them so much.... so boring, n my left leg feels awkward just sitting there.... n i always seem to want to shift lol.....

plus.... with manual less people, "friends", can drive ur car, n they won't be asking to drive it here n there... n etc etc. there is only one friend that i would trust with my car.... (i taught him how to drive manual too haha) .... n if i'm ever getting **** drunk or high or something.... I'll let him drive....designated driver lol...

Manual all the way...When you live in Jersey and have to deal with the idiots from New York who come down here on the weekends and do 40 in the 65 on the GSP in the fast lane, not to mention the aholes in NJ too (85%)..you have to beat on a car a bit, and a auto breaks too easy....Autos eat more gas, break easy, move slow, give less control and responsiveness. Have you ever tried to get out of the snow with an auto?...what a pain in the ***. I could go on and on...the only thing that sucks with a stick is slow moving traffic...but it's a small price to pay compared to the advantages.

if the car came with twice the hp at the crank, then i wouldve considered the AT especially since our pro5s come with the sportsshift...but since it only comes with 130hp, 5MT was my choice. i can use all the juice i can get from the motor.

but why the heck did mazda reverse the shiftup/down with
the rest of the world???????

My '03 ES is a manual, and I made it a very specific point to the dealer that it had to be a 5-speed manual. They didn't have a 5-speed ES... so I said, "Then you go FIND me a 5-speed... Laser Blue Mica... ES... with the roof and 6-CD changer..."

And they did.

I had an '86 MR2 with an automatic... bought it used with 12,000 miles on it. 26 days later, the tranny siezed up completely and the whole friggin thing had to be replaced. Lucky I had a warranty on it.

Had a '91 300ZX with an automatic... which blew up too. Of course, THAT car had 138,000 miles on it, so it wasn't a big surprise.

Yeah, buddy... manual all the way...

I see driving style preference as a reason to choose one type of tranny over another.. but not mechanical so much.. I think you just had bad luck with them..

Standards have the same sorts of problems too... it's just that everyone expects to lose a clutch in the middle of traffic eventually, and is surprised when an auto tranny blows... I don't get it..

12k is obviously an abnormal problem.. but as is all the warrenty work going on right now with a bunch of the manual 2002 protege clutches... hard working/complex parts, happens to all sorts of cars manual or auto in and out of warranty..

Side note: I thought it was stupid when I was FORCED to learn to drive my old manual tranny car without using the clutch in case of emergency... until my clutch went in the middle of traffic

I remember when my clutch linkage on my Ford Ranger truck broke while I was driving. Somehow, i managed to make it to my driveway without stopping. I was in 5th gear for several miles, ran several redlights, but I made it home.
