Yeah who wants that? I can't tell you how annoyed I get when I hit a button and the windows raise and lower in an instant. And I get absolutely infuriated when I only have to press one button to lock/unlock the entire car. It really sucks.

I know, I know, I'm a Luddite. Just seems like more stuff to break, and a bunch of extra unnecessary motors to add weight. But I got the car I wanted, so I'm happy.

Thumbs up

manual all the way
all the other cars I owned before the pro5 were automatic this is definitely the most fun.
However, I am currently stuck with a Toyota Echo rental car because someone decided to hit my car while it was parked on the street. It's auto and by the way it sucks never buy one. Pictures are in another thread.

Thumbs up

it's interesting to see here that everyone drives a manual and yet more then 85% of the north american population drive an automatic.
looks like most of protege owners drive a manual.

i think we drive our cars for the fun handling ,we appreciate and love our cars we dont consider the car as just transportation as most people do but something to be enjoyed and driven hard.

I would say that the statistics from this site do not represent the "average" Protege driver. The folks here are ones that like cars, and like to drive them. Hence, there is a large percentage of manual transmissions accounted for here.

I like manual and the wife like auto, so.....sportmatic for us i had a 02 pr5 and just traded it in for a 03 sportmatic and I love it it drives just as fast in the corners and gives me the opition to drive the car like a manual.

Hi! I'm new to this forum. I drive an automatic.. only because i never learned stick.. my boyfriend would yell at me everytime I tried. Though I would agree that my car ( 2002 protege ES) would be so much more fun to drive it was a manual

I'd never yell at you baby. Ditch that zero and get with the hero.

I drive a stick. Little faster, better gas milage and just easier to keep Rpm's in the powerband of the 2.0L engine. My sister has an auto and it is not that bad. Does on okay job with up and down-shifting given from the drivers throttle response.
