Mazda Accessories for 3rd Gen
Has anyone found a good place other than http://www.mazdastuff.com and http://www.mazdaformance.com to purchase accessories for their 2001-2002 Protege? I'm looking for places outside of TX so I don't have to pay the sales taxes. Plus the dealer I use, and all the other local ones I called, are wanting maximum price on all this stuff which is absurd. I'm specifically interested in MP3 stuff.

Trussville Mazda, being a Mazda dealer, will still have to charge sales tax when shipping to Texas.
I've ordered from Mazdastuff and their shipping price was pretty reasonable--about made up for the difference between them and local dealers. It's a wash, but that way I don't have to schlep all the way to a dealer...
Oh, and ditto what Sir Nuke said: welcome aboard, and good to see another person from the Houston area on board!

Takes some fun out of it. I was wanting to buy one of those compass temperature mirrors for my ES (don't ask). But Jeff Haas wants $250 for it, the people at Joe Meyers are crooks, and I haven't really noticed any other big mazda dealerships around here except for the one in Conroe. Glad to know I'm not the only Protege enthusiast here in Houston. I don't know about you guys but that new 55mph speed limit is really cramping my style. Look for the 02 ES screaming down 610 at 80!

Do an eBay search "Protege 5" and you will find Mazda of Wooster (Ohio) auctioning genuine OEM accessories at prices lower than your local dealership. The $80 floormats are $59.95, I believe.
Anyway, I bought the rear cargo mat from them for $35.10 plus shipping (and NO tax) and am really happy with it. I also got one of the "gullwing" emblems off the P5 tailgate to use on the nose of my Miata and paid $10 something for it, again with no tax.

I've been buying Mazda parts from Trussville for my Miata for 3+ years (they were Roebuck Mazda back then) and they have never charged me a penny of tax when shipping my parts to Mississipppi. (Mississippi has a 7% sales tax). I had to dig out a stack of receipts to confirm this, but it's true. So far as I know, they charge tax only to their Alabama customers.
Frequently the tax and the shipping even one another out, but Trussville usually saves me 40% or so on the cost of my OEM parts. I recently ordered a clutch master cylinder from them for $59.46 - I got it the very next day, (UPS ground) whereas my local dealer needed "4 to 5 business days" to get the part, and the price was $98+
I'm not sure yet how many Protege parts they stock, but due to their longtime support of Miata.Net, and MiataForum, they have 90+% of the parts to keep a Miata on he road, so they seldom need to special order anything.

I'll have to contact them. They don't have any protege parts listed on their website. I did not really see how they could charge sales tax either. If anyone comes across any websites like mazdastuff and mazdaformance let me know.

Maybe we are lucky?

Maybe so. But I happen to live in Texas and both of those websites are here which really hacks me off. The other thing that hacks me off is that they have really good prices compared to what I've been able to find but paying shipping and taxes kind of neutralizes the benefits. Maybe I will just take a road trip down to Austin. I'm going to contact Trussville and ask them about parts. I will let everyone know what I hear back.

mnkyboy,
Yeah that looks like the same stuff. Except my ES does not have the silver plastic around the shifter it only has black. I'm not really sure why they did that.
Sir Nuke,
I can almost remember the days when I-45 was only 55. I don't think there is a single person in the city of Houston that gives a damn about the speed limits. Everytime I drive in from Dallas or San Antonio the speed of traffic just steadily increases the closer we get (until it comes to a dead stop). I remember the first time I came down here I was screaming down I-45 in my old truck going 90-95 the whole way (and still being passed). It amazed the hell out of me because in West Texas that piece of crap had trouble going faster than 75. I think all that crap in the air was giving me a little boost.
