I won't "explain myself, but I can show you my dyno chart. The MSP's are underrated from the factory. For some reason the car is just not as fast as it's power would normally allow. My dyno charts are listed for public veiwing on www.msprotege.com
do a search for member name "Turbo Matty P". It's in a thread with the name "How much boost on stock internals" I think. If you can't find it let me know and I'll try to link to it.

the 170 hp Mazda claimed is just that, a claim..It could have easily been underrated, as Mazda has done this before...the hp estimate manufacturers put out these days are based on calculations, not actual testing, although they can be very accurate.....as posted in another thread a 15 hp loss thru the drivetrain seems a little low considering a stock ES has more like a 35+ hp loss to the wheels..My guess is a stock MSP has more like 185 hp stock.....and exhaust mods on turbo engines net much better gains than NA engines, plus they tend to boost higher since there is less restriction on the output....

no, it's ok...I actually have the dyno's listed on another site, but can't get them to load on this board. To be fair, I should also add that we had added a special chemical to the gasoline. The dyno operator claimed that just a tablespoon of this hot pink liquid would add 15hp to the wheels. He adds it to cars to bump their power for the dyno runs.. I'm not sure what it was, but seeing as how we're not on speaking terms ever again I probably won't be able to find out. The dyno operator is actually the guy who blew my motor in my MSP......right after those numbers were printed!! The two were unrelated..I had a blown headgasket.

I got a manual boost contoroller from ebay for $8.50 shipped to my door. Summit racing has nice autometer boost gauges (30psi) for 50 to 60. Anyone know were I can find a 1 or 2 gauge pillar pod for a 2003.5 MSP?

I had a 1993 AWD Eclipse that I had ordered a bunch of performance parts for, and one of them was a "homemade" boost control gauge exactly like what Joe is offering.
Archer Brother's convinced me otherwise back then and refused to install it and all the other so called "home made" parts.
I ended up installing all HKS equipment with electronic boost control which turned out to be the best decision.
The old saying is true and should be followed "You get what you pay for" and if you want to buy some homemade boost control valve instead of an electronic one from HKS or any other manufacturer your're asking for trouble. There is little tolerance with that kinda garbage.
Take it from someone who was in the IMPORT scene along time ago (i.e. back in 1993) don't buy JUNK, spend the extra $$$ and get something nice, even if you have to save another 2-3 months, you will thank yourself for it in the end.
