Apples and Oranges man! If we do get the Evo GSR it will tromp the current WRX. Then you will have to give Mitsubishi a couple of years to get its act together to bring over the equivalent of the STi which would be a Makinen edition or one done by RallyArt.

Nice cat. I see where this thread is going. Anyhow, well have to wait until things materialize before we can continue any further. Unless you want to talk about cats. Whats better, cats or dogs?

Also the fact that Mazda wants to get back into the WRC.
I hope so.
Must learn to drive in solo 2 this year and figure out how to get on a rally team .. hehe.

The Evo VII is ugly too! wait until you see it in person, only the nose looks good. I drove a WRX STI when I was in Japan, that I estimate at 320hp and it nocked my socks off. The evo is more of a hardcore car than the WRX but they are already talking about softening the EVO when it gets here, less power softer suspension. For everday use the WRX would be better (And it comes in a wagon). It all comes down to personal style preference since there is likely nobody on this forum that could even come close to finding the potential of either of these cars, even a plain Jane WRX.

Oh my....
So what's the final verdict on the WRX interior? I went to an auto show, but never bothered to look really around me when I sat down. I just noticed that it had that stupid thing where you're supposed to grab onto with your left hand even for the driver. I don't see any point to that except that you'll hit your head on it if you're over 5'10

Hey. I thought this was the PROTEGE club not the discuss the Mitsubishi versus Subaru club. But just to be in thread here I did not have any problems with the WRX's interior. It was a little sparse and they were not offering leather at the time (not sure if they do now?) but all in all it was a perfect place to work with what is essentially an engine with some seats. Its a hell of a ride and I hope Mazda is paying attention when the STi and others start arriving on our shores. Man I love all wheel drive. I think the MAZDASPEED Protege should have included that as part of its foundation along with a major turbocharging (and probably a larger engine to go with it). If Mazda built a vehicle able to compete with the WRX and the EVO then I would be in heaven. I would make my wife take the Protege ES and go put my deposit down tonight (although my wife really does not like the ride on that ES, a little bit too rough for her, Maybe I would just sell it?).

Well, I don't care too much about Proteges when i'm watching a sick race between two supercars.

That Ferrari/Lotus video is AWESOME. Love to hear that F-40 heel-toe downshifting - that is one LOUD car - you can hear it roar over the Lotus noise - and the camera is IN the Lotus!

Some nice driving, too - the one turn where the guy threads through two Ferraris and blasts past a Porsche 911 is pretty sweet.

Great vid, dude! Now back to our measly 130 HP 4-bangers.

Talking mazdaspeed protege

saw a pic of the mazdaspeed protege on caranddriver.com
it was bright orange and looked wicked, I wonder if it would fit my 2000 pro with the 1.8?

I think the people at Porsche, BMW, Ferrari, Lotus, Ford, and Chevrolet (etc. etc.) would beg to differ on that point. Leather is half the fun. I don't think I have ever seen a serious sports car that did not at least offer leather as an option. But then that brings up another point. None of these cars they sell at these price levels (Not even the utterly amazing WRX) are anything more than childs toys when compared to the beasts they offer at the higher prices.

Doesn't matter about how much the car costs it is the driver that makes the biggest difference. I have had rides in WRX's with professional rally drivers that would make your head spin. perfect example is the Ferrari/ Lotus video I posted, the $500,000 480hp+ F40 could not shake the $30,000 180hp Lotus Elise. Frankly, I think the WRX or better yet the Mazda miata is a better, more enjoyable sports car than a Porshe or Ferrari. The speeds that you have to drive before a Ferrari gets fun is way beyond anything you can achive on a public road. Now a Miata at 60mph on a nice curvy road will be fun

I am not talkin out my ***, my father has a Ferrari and he doesn't use it because it is not enjoyable, as matter of fact, it is for sale. I have driven it alot and the P5 is more fun (well almost), although I must admit the sound is UNREAL

I have to agree. Supercars are fun, but most of them have limits that are way to high to enjoy. I just sold my Porsche last November. Not a high end one (914) but it was HIGHLY modified. Had a custom body kit that made it look like a GT car, slantnose, 930 turbo style integrated bumper and flares, whale tail. Custom suspension with large torsion bars and Bilsteins on front, V8 springs in the rear. 400 HP chevy 355 CI engine. 86 Carrera transaxle with a Quaiffe diff and fully strengthened and rebuilt for up to 650 HP. The car would 0-60 in about 3.8 (only weighed 2350 lbs) but you could take a 30 mph corner at 80 (it had Weltmeister adjustable sway bars front and rear also). You had to be pushing corners into the triple digits before it got REALLY exciting. I was either going to kill myself or get caught one of the two so we sold it. Besides my son is getting his license and I didn't want it around as a temptation. It was a serious drivers car. That means it wasn't forgiving of idiots or the inexperienced. But what a ride. I scared the **** out of anyone that was brave enough to ride with me in it. I actually painted it code HZ vivid yellow I liked the color so much. That's the color I wish they'd make the new Mazdaspeed.

Nice option on a street car, on a race car.... no. Leather with suede centers sure. Leathers too slick for racing. Most companys have a cloth race seat option.
Still looked to me like the F-40 could walk away anytime.IMHO

Been in a few exotics, even the 360 is completely streetable, the new 996 Turbo is a total daily driver. If I personally could afford one... 996 Turbo, and the WRX as a winter beater
