MP3 vs. MSP?

Can someone tell me if there are any differences between the mazdaspeed protege and a mazda mp3?

I've been confused because i will be trading my 01 protege in soon for a msp and i noticed today that the floormats on it read MP3.... but then i can go around to different web sites and find cars that have mp3 badges and cars that have msp badges... so are there any differences?

I think the difference between the MazdaSpeed Protege and the MP3 is that the MazdaSpeed has a turbo on it, while the MP3 doesnt. I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure that I read the MSP has a turbo.

MP3 was selling 24000$CAN brand new on 2001
Now, MSP is selling for 27000$CAN brand new

Canada's MP3 are all blue, only 250 MP3 in Canada.
In US, you may have yellow or blue, I think there are aound 1500 or 1750 MP3 in States....

The new MSP is Orange, black, Titan and yellow....
I dunno how much they have in Sates, but in canada, they have 1750, next year, they may have another 1000 available....

MSP has ABS, LSB, which MP3 dun have...

If you have $, buy a new MSP, if you don't, buy a used MP3 then mod it, put a turbo on it, and it will faster than a stock MSP for sure.

Got it... thanks... anybody have any ideas on why the msp has mp3 floormats? Maybe to let the passengers know the driver has an mp3 capable stereo?

it's probably one of the VERY early production MSPs. You should demand for Mazdaspeed floormats, you are being hosed if you accept MP3 mats.

I have a MP3, but I don't have the MP3 floormates, I got the Protege one.

I saw that in the early prodution model they were testing. they used mp3 floor mats. it has nothing to do with the stereo. Only the 1500 USA mp3's got floormats, canada got protege mats. They should definitly give you the mazdaspeed mats. Get the msp if u got the loot, its basically an upgraded mp3.

Yes, I haven't got hosed.
I just asked other MP3 owners in Canada.

All MP3 got Protege floormates in Canada. That sucks, but I didn't get hosed.

Since I was unable to find this info anywhere else...

at what rpm does the MP3 engine make peak torque? (seems like an appropriate question to ask in a topic about MP3 vs mazdaspeed)

Thanks for the link. So the exhaust, timing, and revised intake manifold lead to a higher peak torque but I have to wonder about the edmunds' website information. They have listed mirages with V-6's previously and other slight errors but they also say the MP-3 has a height of 55.3 inches and ground clearance of 5.5 inches while Mazdausa.com says the standard Protege has a height of 55.5 inches and ground clearance of 5.5 inches. I don't see how the MP3 with a lowered suspension (springs) has the same ground clearance and is only 0.2 inches shorter (I was under the impression that the springs lowered the vehicle by 0.75" compared to the stock protege)
