MSP rumor: Don't rev past 3krpm in first 500miles?

This has been floating around. It's one of those friend of a friend things.

Something like this: "Stay away from the Mazdaspeed Protege. My friend works at the dealer and says he's had 3 come back with blown engines already. There's a bulletin saying don't rev past 3000 rpm in the break in period or 500 miles."

Sounds like BS to me, but some few are believing it. It is BS, right?

That's just a break-in period. I doubt the engine actually blew up if it wasn't broken-in properly.. but it can cause small metal shavings to score the cylinder walls. I usually break in my cars for 1500 miles before I do anything with them... and after 3000 miles i'd already have done 2 oil changes. Then it's an oil change every 2500-3000 miles. This is regardless of what car I have.

During the break in period, don't rev your engine excessively is i beleive what the manual for my P5 says (but tru for any new car.)

An on a 4 cylinder i'd say that's over 4-5k rpm
heck 70mph on mine is over 3000 rpm.

Hope this helps...

that's true on any car. you shouldn't rev high during break-in unless you want to break your engine

What's an ms2? You won't see the problems now, they say its better for your engine in the long run to be gentle during the break-in period. And I personally think the "engine blew-up" story is BS!

I know what it is, I was being sarcastic . Its not 'MS2', it's 'MSP', as in MazdaSpeed Protege.
