my new mazdaspeed protoge
last week, i put down a deposit on a new mazdaspeed protoge. i have a few questions that i haven't been able to find answers for so far.
1. does anyone know what these cars weigh?
2. what is the weight/bolt-pattern/offset of the hart racing rims that are coming on the car?
3. does anyone kow what the aftermarket catalog is going to look like? i've been told at the dealership that it's going to have the option of a thicker rear bar and a larger cat-back, but i don't know much beyond that.
i may have the first black mazdaspeed in the state of MD, and am really psyched about the car.
thanks in advance.

wow, that's alot heavier than i though it'd be. motortrend has the regular protoge listed at 2650. why the extra 200 lbs.? i thought they'd go the way of the type-r and try to take some weight out, if anything...

Hold it
The P5 and MP3 have 5 lugs.
Aftermarket fit for these is 17x7 with 42mm offset and a 5 on 4.5" pattern. Any offset between 40 and 50mm will probably be ok with rims in the 6.5 to 7.5 in widths.

what I don't get is , how they don't figure that if they put on lightweight 16's or even 15's on that car and decrease the sound deadening , that the mazdaspeed protege would be a lot faster than it actually is ... It also would probable be cheaper, after all less rotational mass , helps you not hurts you ,, but you know they have to make it appealing to the eye , for sales reasons , so......

oh, and even if it is 2800+ lbs., it'll still be a blast to drive.
so an early congrats on your Mazdaspeed!

it'll stay factory stock till the warranty expires, but something is definitely coming out of that car. 2800 lbs. is just too heavy. a protege 'lightweight' would be a very smart move for mazda R&D.

Need to get it down to around 2400 lbs then it will really fly.
Carbon fiber hood with orange body would look tight.
Carbon fiber side skirts, light weight wheels and maybe strip out the interior.
Loose the stereo too.
0-60 around 6 seconds , speed demon.

Jealous!
Awesome - you're the first person in this area to actually order one (that posts on this board, at least)
May we ask - how much? And at which dealership? Feel free to withhold that info until you get delivery, if you must, though
Congratulations! And yes - rip out unnecessary heavy stuff - like the subwoofer, for starters A carbon fiber hood might save you 15 lbs or so, as well, but lighter wheels may be hard to come by - RH's are usually really light!
Oh - and I assume you will be at the next area picnic (MAPP, or whatever its called!)

MSRP is $20,500, but since they are so limited in production the dealer told me it could be as much as $1,000 more than that. they don't have any paperwork on the cars as far as final pricing so they can't get me an exact figure just yet.
i'm getting the car from russell mazda here in baltimore. they're saying that they are the only dealer in the area certified to sell mazdaspeed, and that they're getting maybe 15 cars total for the year.
i'm going to leave the car (mostly) stock till it's out of warranty, but will be taking it to lapping days at VIR, pocono, summit point, ect. as soon as i get comfortable with the car. maybe an auto-x or two as well.

Ahh, you better fix up a final price!
Brown's Mazda in Fairfax is offering it for 21,1xx without any haggling - internet price. That's a markup of only around $600. While I hate mark-ups, I doubt anyone will sell this car at MSRP or less, sot his might be a better deal. I know that in the MD/DC/VA area, dealers will sell even if you're out of state, and collect tax for the state of residence. You may want to check it out.
