name that intake sound
I finally got my hands on a decent camera that has great audio capture ...
i will let you guys finally hear the monster intake sound coming from the tip of the pipe. Its similar to the sound of a gas main. Its only coming from the tip of the pipe and there is no leak anywhere in the piping, a short ram makes the same sound.
We narrowed it down to one of the flaps inside the intake manifold porting into the engine cylinders. Because the sound goes away when you give it increasing throttle and goes away when you even out or let go of the throttle. We have done dynos so it doesnt look like creating dynos. If we get are hands on a fiber optic camera we will feeed it thru and see if we can find is actuallyhappening in side there. we wont push it in too far though.
lol sounds cool listen for yourself.
enjoy
wait till half way point of the video, its really noisy in the begining because the mic is picking up the engine fan.

Sounds like...
Sonds like a Vacuum Cleaner !!! thats loud!
you should record a video one with the hood closed and one from the inside, to hear the difference and rev the car a little bit.
What kind of HP are you making with it? and whats the "description" of the intake
by the way, in case you cant tell Im a newbie, so does it supossed to be doing that "suking" sound ( no phun intended) or its something wrong with it?

mazda in my area has been very helpful and rolling around for free and looking under the hood, when i had my tranny swapped, they took a better look at the engine but didnt see anything. only way to know for sure is to do a full autopsy, but once youdo that and put it back together you might have trouble, plus thats where mazda draws the line for free service lol.
There verdict is there is nothing wrong, could just be a intake flap slightly ajar causing air to pass the flap in a tight fashion at idle or level throttle. because the sound goes away fully when the car is under load/accelerating. worst case i think it could be a screw in the manifold problem, but thats unlikely or something would have went tango uniform by now.
in the Horse power department, after the last ECU F'around, we are going to do another dyno to get a offical weigh in, but I beat my first V6 stock on Friday lol
And about the sound of the intake, beleive it or not, the sound is the same, hood closed, it just come out of the wheel well where the filter is.
it turns heads. hell when i get my lexus next month I want to get it to make that kinda sound.
when the car dies I am definatlly doing an autopsy
