New Protege Owner....Again
Hi all, Just posting to tell you that I have replaced my 91 LX that has served me faithfully for 11 years with a new 2002 LX. Love the new car, sad to see the old leave(not yet, it's for sale). If my new one is as reliable as my 91, I will be thrilled. I just want to say that 11 years ago when I bought my 91 it was the only car that I really wanted. I figured that my next car would be a 911 or 540 Beemer. Then real life set in.....House, bills, etc. So I bought a used Miata to satsfy my sportscar need, and to be honest the new protege does a pretty good small sports sedan imitation. Life is Good!

Just picked it up tonight. All I can say is that after 12 years of driving the same car, it sure feels good to drive the new one!

There are plenty of more powerful sports cars, sports cars that handle "better" (like, by the test numbers and raw data), and sports cars that have more conveniences and "luxury". But for pure FUN DRIVING, the Miata is KING!!! Some might want to call it "queen", though - thinking it's a "chick car" - but only those who have never driven one.
When I slammed through off-ramps at 70MPH and through some of the sweepers at over 100MPH. When I took a 90 degree corner so hard, toe-heel shifting from 4th to 2nd, redlining and hanging the tail end out into oncoming traffic, and just let go of the gas, clutch and steering and giggled as the little rocket naturally snapped right back in line with no effort. When my friends had to check their boxers for **** stains - that's when they stopped calling it a "chick car". And I had the little 1.6L - I can only dream of what the newer Miata can do with the nice 16" rolling stock and the 140+ horse engine.
Sorry - I'm waxing nostalgic. Damn, I miss that car. *sniff*
